Nice, but insincere in that it doesn't recognize that Steve Jobs was an abusive jerk who wouldn't recognize his own daughter. Maybe a very necessary jerk who benefited humanity tremendously by pushing people into doing wonderful things that otherwise would not have been done any time soon. And maybe he became a better human being later on in his life. Still, fiction is not the best tribute to someone about whom many great things can already be said.
Re:The Steve Jobs Archive by toomim on Thursday September 08, 2022 @02:41AM (#32762029)
That doesn't make it "insincere." It just means that the creators of this archive have different priorities than you.

I doubt that the people who hate Steve Jobs are willing to make something called "The Steve Jobs Archive", anyway.

Re:The Steve Jobs Archive by cat_plus_plus on Thursday September 08, 2022 @12:16PM (#32767727)
I don't hate Steve Jobs, it just doesn't do justice to him, as a real life great and flawed person, to portray him as Dalai Lama.

I’m sure his widow and best friends will get right on that. /s

Unless you're Hitler, memorials always focus on the positive. The "jerk" side of Jobs is well documented and well known. Having used Apple products since the Apple II+, I've followed Jobs from nearly the beginning.

I recall when he left Apple and started Next, there were plenty of articles that talked to Apple employees at the time who would tell stories of getting berated by Jobs. But the employees also asked to remain anonymous. "Why?" asked the writer. "Because I want the opportunity to work for him again."

Leadership can be all positive focused feedback (the current trend), all negative focused feedback or or mix (which Jobs was). You're either Brilliant or a Bozo.

Don't be a bozo. Positive focused feedback really doesn't help with that.

> abusive jerk who wouldn't recognize his own daughter

Men have to be able to choose whether they want children.

Re:The Steve Jobs Archive by sofixa on Thursday September 08, 2022 @04:18AM (#32762795)
That's pretty easy to do with 99%+ success rate.
Re:The Steve Jobs Archive by eastbound on Thursday September 08, 2022 @05:21AM (#32763198)
For the remaining %, men should be able to choose abortion or not being the father, as women can choose too. In the XXIth century, 100% births are voluntary.

> as women can choose too. In the XXIth century, 100% births are voluntary.

I'm not sure where you live, but those choices are not available everywhere. In the USA, they are actively being taken away. So regardless of what choices should be available, your stance is woefully out of touch with reality.

Condoms effectivement is 98%: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/contraception/male-condoms/

If you have sex twice a week (which for a young couple is very conservative), after a year, you've reach 100 attempts already.

You then better hope the two patners agree on wether or not keeping the baby.

Re:The Steve Jobs Archive by sofixa on Thursday September 08, 2022 @05:27AM (#32763233)
It's 98% for the condom itself, but if you couple it with the fact that the 2% failure rate has to correspond with an ejaculation in an ovulating female's vagina, the actual effectiveness is much higher.
Re:The Steve Jobs Archive by eurleif on Thursday September 08, 2022 @05:33AM (#32763270)
That's not accurate (if it were, we wouldn't have efficacy rates for coitus interruptus and the rhythm method that this can be directly compared to, which we do); but the rate is per year, not per act. From the link:

>When used correctly every time you have sex, male condoms are 98% effective. This means 2 out of 100 people will become pregnant in 1 year when male condoms are used as contraception.

On the other hand, over 20 years, that translates to an efficacy rate of only 67%.

Re:The Steve Jobs Archive by BiteCode_dev on Thursday September 08, 2022 @05:39AM (#32763309)
And that's "if used correctly".

Now add passion, alcohol, nails, wrong lubricants, and ignorance for a much worse rate.

Aren't they?
Re:The Steve Jobs Archive by cat_plus_plus on Thursday September 08, 2022 @12:31PM (#32767957)
Men have to be able to choose whether they want to be jerks, shouldn't be against the law. But the ones who are not total psychopaths would be willing to at least acknowledge children they happen to have and spend some time to bond with them / introduce them to their lives. And, by the time they are wealthy enough, contribute to their well being. This is completely orthogonal to whether the law should mandate child support. Women who are not psychopaths also should not see motherhood as only a burden and a fetus as useless parasite. Not saying they should be forced to give birth or that there are no good reasons for abortion. There are also good reasons for men to not pay child support, what if they are already struggling to take good care of their current wife and children? I will just choose to associate with people whose worldviews do not trouble me.

I don't know what was between him and his daughter but it's hard to comprehend how busy one can get. A guy in his position, I'm not surprised he would not have time for kids.

To me or more reads like someone trying to deal with his god-complex or something.

Just saw the actual speech with this text. Sounds totally positive like that. The e-mail at first looked like some sort of daily affirmations.

Is this an official archival page from some foundation set up by the Jobs family / Apple or a fan made webpage? I didn't see any further information.
Re:The Steve Jobs Archive by spearo77 on Thursday September 08, 2022 @12:39AM (#32761241)
It seems like a family-backed project – https://opencorporates.com/companies/us_ca/201533410035

Although Laurene Powell Jobs was only added as an officer last year.

I’m confused why email to yourself? Is this a practice from somewhere I need to be aware of?
Re:The Steve Jobs Archive by juliendorra on Thursday September 08, 2022 @09:29AM (#32765213)
Many people (used?) to do that as reminders. It was a cross device solution too when there’s was not that many simple, instant ways to share todos between devices.

So, an habit inherited from a time before app/web apps that sync and are in constant connection.

Re:The Steve Jobs Archive by cookie_monsta on Thursday September 08, 2022 @10:41AM (#32766292)
Sure, I still do that, just for quick reminders and sometimes to move files from my phone to desktop if I don't have a cable handy.

I know there's all sorts of reminder/ notes apps available, but why sign up for yet another account when email does the job?

Re:The Steve Jobs Archive by lawgimenez on Friday September 09, 2022 @08:26PM (#32786474)
This makes sense. Thanks I think I should look into this habit closely.
Re:The Steve Jobs Archive by bhupy on Thursday September 08, 2022 @01:07PM (#32768434)
My wife keeps an ongoing email draft to herself with her to-do lists; she’s been doing it for the last 10+ years. She’s aware that there are now better solutions for this, but it’s a force of habit and it works pretty well for her.

They use LoveFrom, Serif — so Jony Ive's shop is behind the production.

Those scroll based animations are really nice. The UI feels fun to use.
