This is sweet, love the aesthetic.

thanks a bunch!

On mobile when I scroll few pages down while only looking at images, it is impossible to tell if caption is above or below image, where it belongs.
Re:Open source 160 sound visualization experiments by herrherrmann on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @01:56PM (#49996366)
I guess you cannot see the almost-invisible borders of the images. They group the image and text together a bit better. But yeah, the design fails to be accessible in less ideal viewing conditions for sure.

thanks for the feedback! i’ve increased the spacing on mobile, so it should be clearer now which caption belongs to each animation.

As someone who grew up with Milkdrop, these seem a bit dull/minimalistic.

fair enough
Re:Open source 160 sound visualization experiments by hellojomp on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @02:19PM (#49996725)
It hurts me that 160 sound visualizations later I am less interested in sound than I would've been with one, just one, compelling viz.

Wow, these are beautiful! Are you open to others using these in applications? There is no license in the repo so I am unsure :)
Re:Open source 160 sound visualization experiments by gausswho on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @05:37PM (#49999122)
The repo has a LICENSE that declares MIT. Bottom of README.md does too, with some caveats about fonts.

Ah, thank you! I did a quick cmd+f search, and realized now upon seeing your comment that it's one of those words that I consistently misspell!

I do too, all the time.

glad you liked it! let me know if you end-up doing something <3
Re:Open source 160 sound visualization experiments by horacemorace on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @04:04PM (#49998083)
None of these help me understand what the sound is like because they’re all time-domain which runs way too fast for humans to intuit. Visualizations in the frequency domain are a lot more natural.
Re:Open source 160 sound visualization experiments by TomGarden on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @04:51PM (#49998634)
Overall I agree I don't "see" a lot in most of these, but there are actually a few spectral visualizations in there that are a bit more telling
Re:Open source 160 sound visualization experiments by 1e1a on Thursday October 08, 2026 @12:38AM (#50001858)
A lot of them have degrees of freedom which are wasted instead of being used to convey more information. For example, the "vector scope" visualization appears to just be some sort of Lissajous figure, whose scale is the only thing controlled by the sound.
Re:Open source 160 sound visualization experiments by kaganin on Friday October 09, 2026 @12:49PM (#50023258)
appreciate the feedback!
Re:Open source 160 sound visualization experiments by Keyframe on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @06:28PM (#49999634)
would be helpful to hear the sound as the viz goes by.
Re:Open source 160 sound visualization experiments by kaganin on Friday October 09, 2026 @12:50PM (#50023265)
will add this!
Re:Open source 160 sound visualization experiments by 4b11b4 on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @07:19PM (#50000086)
Can you make them all move on repeat for a sine sweep followed by some misc transients
Re:Open source 160 sound visualization experiments by kaganin on Friday October 09, 2026 @12:50PM (#50023262)
yup, will do it!
