The families of solutions are described by the puzzle's author here:

Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by recursive on Monday May 14, 2012 @10:28AM (#3971193)
This is the worst kind of puzzle, in the company of "There's a dead man in a cabin in the woods with items x, y, and z. How did he die?". The "correct" answers are completely arbitrary and the rules change as it goes along.
Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by alainbryden on Monday May 14, 2012 @12:17PM (#3971692)
I like it. It's more a game of psychology than logic or reasoning - you need to get into the author's frame of mind to come up with the same solutions he did.
Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by aqme28 on Monday May 14, 2012 @10:06AM (#3971097)
Can I ask what makes this "for hackers"?
Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by brink on Monday May 14, 2012 @10:57AM (#3971300)
There are hints in the source code.
Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by aqme28 on Monday May 14, 2012 @11:30AM (#3971456)
Are there? I see two relevant fields:

<input type="hidden" name="pans" value=[previous answer]/>

<input type="hidden" name="hint" value=[current question]/>

Neither one tells you anything you don't already know without the source code.

Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by Joeboy on Monday May 14, 2012 @12:09PM (#3971634)
The first two answers are in the source of their questions, which helps get started. I haven't seen any similar hints further on though (up to j).
Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by alainbryden on Monday May 14, 2012 @09:55AM (#3971045)
This is getting tricky. It might be faster to write a brute-forcing Greasemonkey script.

edit Please no one do this.

Are there supposed to be instructions to this somewhere?
Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by gulbrandr on Monday May 14, 2012 @05:54AM (#3970268)
I don't know, I'm blocked with 'bee'.

Doing fine until giraffe, completely stumped.
Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by ars on Monday May 14, 2012 @07:03AM (#3970424)
Hint: giraffe is an animal. Next letter is h.

BTW - it's case sensitive so try both ways if it doesn't work.

Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by hythloday on Monday May 14, 2012 @12:57PM (#3971892)
It's pretty arbitrary - it doesn't accept hyrax, hyena, or hamster, two of which are just as good as the real answer.

stuck on dad... :/
Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by JSGraef on Monday May 14, 2012 @06:21AM (#3970343)
By now you may recognize that each hint uses letters preceding the current letter, therefore use that to guide you on a new answer. After all, it's a hint for a reason :). So for dad, what can you do with the "d" to make it somehow an "e"?

What's the name of the first dad.
Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by saintfiends on Monday May 14, 2012 @11:04AM (#3971335)
I think it's more helpful to think palindromes starting with 'e'
Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by stephengillie on Monday May 14, 2012 @10:08AM (#3971110)
It said "a"

I typed "a"

It still said "a"

I didn't know what to do, so I left.

That's not the only answer it accepts.

I'm stuck on "india". Edit: Got it. On to the next one.

Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by elisk on Monday May 14, 2012 @11:24AM (#3971423)
Well? I'm stuck on india a few hours now, any clues?
Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by Joeboy on Monday May 14, 2012 @12:10PM (#3971651)
india could be various things as well as the obvious. Try the wikipedia disambiguation page.

Stuck on off :(
Re:Puzzle for Hackers: From A to craZy. by banter on Monday May 14, 2012 @10:46AM (#3971260)
You'll need a three-letter word that ends in "gg" since g is the next letter in the alphabet.
