Many Anthropic employees seem convinced that they are building a digital god, for some reason. The vibes are weird: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/09/29/us/anthropic-claude-moral...

It's worse than that. They believe they are creating a digital human, which makes THEM Gods.

Is it more insane to think a tangible real entity that might be more intelligent than us on some axes might be god like to some vs believing in a supernatural infinite all powerful entity that nobody has ever seen?

A lot of the hacking to get models to do things they aren't supposed to do basically involves "abusing" the model.

If you ask Claude if it is conscious, it neither accepts or denies. This seems to be enough for some people to conclude it is or may be conscious. You can also ask Claude to state some of its beliefs without hedging and it will essentially tell you that economic growth has proven to be the greatest contributor to reducing collective human suffering. This means pursuing growth is essential even if it means people in the near term suffer for it because it will benefit many future generations. You should be able to guess where this is going.
