It's not how Doom works. It's more like Wolfenstein 3D.

which is literally what I said.

You said “such as Wolfenstein 3D or the original DOOM”, which is only half true. You call it Cubedoom, a DOOM clone, but it’s using wolf3d techniques.

I love raycasters, I’m making one right now. But they aren’t DOOM clones.

It's an arena shooter, its visuals resemble DOOM, thus, I call it a DOOM clone.

That makes sense. Many shooters at the time were called DOOM clones, regardless of their technique. It might mean something different to people today since the genre is now first person shooters, but it’s still valid.

Maybe put a question behind the question mark. That's what question marks are for.

No need to be passive aggressive. I think what comes to most peoples minds when they think of a doom clone at least includes textured walls. But props to you!
Re:Show HN: I wrote a DOOM clone in my own programming language by pizza_man on Thursday April 30, 2026 @01:54PM (#47965989)
That's exactly what a doom clone is, textured walls, maybe go to your bathroom if you have one and enjoy your doom clone, all of those textured walls.

Dude you’re handling this so poorly. I don’t understand why you would have such an attitude when presumably trying to get folk to engage with something you have built.
Re:Show HN: I wrote a DOOM clone in my own programming language by pizza_man on Thursday April 30, 2026 @02:38PM (#47966549)
The only thing that's poor is you and your comment.
Re:Show HN: I wrote a DOOM clone in my own programming language by solumunus on Friday May 01, 2026 @05:28AM (#47972749)
Ah, you're going for that engagement at all costs approach. It's desperate but I hope it works out for you.
Re:Show HN: I wrote a DOOM clone in my own programming language by pizza_man on Friday May 01, 2026 @08:35AM (#47974067)
And you're going for the cuckold redditor approach, it's pathetic, and it probably won't work out for you.

And most Asteroids clones use raster graphics, but so what?
Re:Show HN: I wrote a DOOM clone in my own programming language by Narishma on Thursday April 30, 2026 @12:24PM (#47964832)
Not even Wolfenstein 3D, since it doesn't have textured walls. It's more like Hovertank 3D.
Re:Show HN: I wrote a DOOM clone in my own programming language by pizza_man on Thursday April 30, 2026 @12:41PM (#47965069)
How about you write Narishma 3D, and then I'll critique that?

It's tough to put yourself out there, and the work you've done is impressive - hats off to you for that. I don't read the parent comments as critiques of your work, just your description of it, so maybe take a breath and don't stress about it.

This is a moment in the spotlight for you - it would be more interesting to hear about what you've done here and why it's important to you.
