You would think in the war-gaming, this was seen as a benefit, not a problem. The belief would be that there are many bargains to be had, if you can perturb things in your own interests, at a time of your own choosing.
In the same sense, your least-worst outcome here might be believing you have more resilience, and will come out the otherside of the worldwide flu attack (from American markets sneezing) stronger than the other guy.
Not to drive all the way there, I bet during the post WW1 hyperinflation days somebody said "we can pay down our war debt faster now"

Trump largely won the election because of inflation, which hurt incumbents worldwide last year.
And one of his first acts is to engage in a pointless trade was that will unilaterally raise prices. And that action was clearly telegraphed during his campaign - he said again and again that he would do exactly this.
Absolute own goal from all those who voted for Trump because they bought the lie that he would fix prices.

The current voting body has never experienced war, civil or otherwise. We have lived in peace and relative prosperity. So we cannot fathom how bad things can get when we elect the nuclear option.
It’s okay; we will learn our history lesson as the previous generations did, the hard way.

His base is basically the left hand side of the IQ curve and a smattering of ultra rich who don't care about costs of living. His base will be easily persuaded that whatever calamity bestows them it's the fault of Canada/China/Liberals/LGBT or whatever the fuck is the scapegoat du jour.

> Trump has said he will speak to Canada and Mexico's leaders on Monday about the tariffs which are due to come into effect at midnight on Tuesday.
One might even call that a negotiation? Including the market-moving volatility from "trade war" headlines. F2F talks have been underway for more than a month. The most contentious issues in every negotiation are decided near the deadline.
