Can these statistics be trusted still?
What a gift to the Chinese this administration is.
The sooner you switch away the better. Yes, it’s a bit of a hassle, but it’s a hassle you deal with once, unlike the gimmicky bullshit Microsoft adds to Windows every few years in a desperate attempt to boost sales.
This administration is too stupid to write coherently without the aid of AI. It’s a way for them to dress up their low IQ ideas.
Re:US Supreme Court Upholds Texas Porn ID Law on Friday June 27, 2025 @03:46PM (#44399702)
Oh boy, I can’t wait until I have to submit my government id to some random “age verification” provider just so I can read Oglaf.
I wonder when some large company is going to do the math and realize it would be cheaper to take out a hit than to suffer through wildly swinging tariffs for the foreseeable future.
Boomer mindset

Meanwhile, China forges ahead.
What’s the steelman for this, MAGA voters? Anyone?
Re:I have tinnitus. I don't recommend it on Thursday May 22, 2025 @08:26PM (#44068571)
I’ve been reluctant to seek out the Lenire since a number of people claim it made their tinnitus worse
Remember when Trump said you should get a green card with your diploma? Wasn't even a year ago:

Did you use the Lenire? I was hoping the Susan Shore device would be available by now since it supposedly had a much better study backing it but it seems to be stuck in limbo. I’m not even sure if it’s been submitted to the FDA yet.

I pray every day for a cure.
Re:Australian man details abuse in Chinese prison on Sunday May 18, 2025 @05:04PM (#44024302)
This story would be front page if it happened in the US. Instead, crickets.
Re:Gen Z Loves China, and Nobody Knows Why [video] on Sunday May 18, 2025 @05:00PM (#44024282)
Because there’s a literal army of China boosters all over social media. China also controls the social media app most popular with that demographic. “Nobody knows why” my ass.
> Between 2012 and 2017, Lieber received around US$200,000 for work at the Wuhan University of Technology (WUT) in China, funds that he allegedly hid from the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS). He also told US investigators that he was not associated with a Chinese recruitment programme, called the Thousand Talents Plan, when he had been selected through it to lead a laboratory at the WUT.

He made his choice long ago.

Re:Chinese 'kill switches' found hidden in US solar farms on Saturday May 17, 2025 @03:59PM (#44016582)
I think the opposite is true, and that China knows there won’t be serious repercussions from this.
Literally communist!
Re: on Saturday May 17, 2025 @01:10PM (#44015636)
All those protest votes against Harris probably weren’t a good idea, huh?
This was a clumsy attempt, but it shows that AI companies can and will use their AIs to mass influence public opinion.
The people in this administration revel in cruelty. It is their sole motivation.
I wonder if this holds up in younger adults as well.
Re: on Tuesday May 13, 2025 @12:36PM (#43974781)
There's basically zero chance of this passing, and if it did, the supreme court would tear it to shreds for obviously violating the 1st amendment. Mike is just posturing. The smarter prudes are counting on the various age verification bills to de facto ban pornography.
> "Everybody should equalize. Everybody should pay the same price," Trump said.

It’s very understated how communist Trump is. See also his comments on children having too many dolls.

> The first and central provision of the bill is the requirement for tracking technology to be embedded in any high-end processor module or device that falls under the U.S. export restrictions.

How would this even work? Embedding gps modules in gpus? Is this as insane as it sounds?

So still nothing substantial yet, just more chaos.
You could tell this same story about every company that’s outsourced manufacturing to China. China took the apocryphal Lenin quote about “selling us the rope with which to hang them” and turned it into industrial policy.
