Without further context, it may have been your delivery that ruffled feathers, not your message.

Two questions: Why was this particular person added to the team? Why are they a co-founder instead of an employee?

Thank you for asking. We can't pay salaries and he has a lot of industry experience, seemed like a smart, go getter that said all the right things during the interviews.
