That's for enthusiasts (super fit people)? From health benefits perspective for average person, what I've heard is that it's enough for the weight to trigger accelerated heart rate, breathing, sweating etc. when walking. 10-15 kg should do it for most people.

Re: the "with kids" perspective, my mother used to haul groceries from across half a town (from which store happened to have something stocked) during Communist Poland times. She, like most other people, did not have a car. It was all definitely doable, as evidenced by 35m+ million population of Poland at that time, most of whom was families with kids an no cars.

Ah, seems like the term is being co-opted for the general populace and is now trendy! We used to just call it backpacking.

Rucking originated as a military term for a long jog with a heavy rucksack (hence the name!) and was always pretty shitty because rucksacks suck and the military has no shortage of heavy shit to carry. I’ve heard stories of 80+ lb rucksacks and 8+ miles being the norm.

Weirdly, the military also coined ‘Vitamin I’ for ibuprofen. I wonder why?

Ah how the world changes. I can’t wait for it to mean going on a casual walk with a loved one while bringing along a nice meal and some wine. ;)

Thanks for explaining!
