Even better, knowing someone with one of these trucks - every time it does a software update (which it does over the air, and which apparently cannot be disabled), it re-enables a bunch of shit and forces you to opt-out again.

Super creepy.

Lowest quartile is exactly what was being discussed.
They are underlying components for the CPI calculation. How else do you expect it to happen?

Do some math, and show your numbers if you want something else.

Uh, none of that has anything to do with a broken bone (for example) costing $20k USD or more to get fixed.
Fall and break a bone.

Have appendicitis.

Get in a car accident and get injured.

Have an accident in the kitchen (burn yourself, etc.).

Get bit by an animal and need special shots (rabies, or the like).

All relatively common ‘surprise’ events at all ages. All 20-100k easy in the US right now.

All of them are 3-4x baseline (from the ‘80’s), while wages are up barely 30% from the same time. There is nothing made up about it.
Re:Bidirectional Charging During Grid Outages on Sunday November 01, 2026 @01:27PM (#50328241)
Yup, even better if you power a separate battery charger with the generator, but let loads be handled by the battery+inverter. You don’t need to provision the generator for peak loads (which can be quite high), or even worry about high harmonic distortion from a cheap generator screwing with your electronics. It basically turns your system into a fully ‘online’ UPS.

Also, really handy for diesel gens which will ‘wet stack’ if you only run them for short periods or with light loads.

Provision a generator size which you expect to run say 6-10 hours at a time (at say 70-80% rated load) to fully charge your batteries, and a battery bank sized for 3-4 days of load.

Keeps your total gen hours much lower, much more efficient fuel wise (you can set the ideal load using your charger, and it will keep it that way regardless of increasing/decreasing loads), doesn’t require as big a generator if you have things like AC compressors, heat pumps, etc. with high start loads, and gives you a lot of redundancy and flexibility. It even gives you time to fix your gen or find/beg/borrow another if yours breaks, and you won’t need to keep the gen running overnight if you plan appropriately, so your neighbors will like you more.

Best of all worlds. Especially if you have natural gas, or get a tri-fuel generator and keep propane handy. Propane doesn’t go bad like gas or diesel can.

Capital vs Labor.
nope. that chart does not mean what you think it means.

and many more.

check those charts, and then compare them to yours and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

wages have been roughly stagnant, while major life expenses have skyrocketed. but hey, if you don’t need medical care, don’t rent, and don’t need transportation, maybe it’s fine?

One key number you don’t mention - inflation adjusted wages, especially for the lower half of the population.

If you hold a lot of assets or are in the upper quartile of wages, then all of this is good.

If you don’t, then you’re fucked. That is their point.

Good luck
It’s especially an issue for migrants who are dark skinned and move to climates with little light. So yes, I think you are correct.
Sure, but they have a lot of money to buy me votes and new cars and stuff.

In this thread, where someone was claiming that the fast breeding religious/ethnic folks were replacing everyone or something, it’s extremely relevant.

Nothing is new here.

Even the major global powers failed to actually eradicate all humans (on the other side) during WW2, with actual nuclear weapons. Pretty sure cockroaches are actually easier.

It’s remarkably hard to actually eradicate all humans.

Eh, status quo is impossible once the cat is out of the bag.

It’s essentially nuclear weapons, except for social manipulation and propaganda production.

It’s too tempting/useful for any gov’t or large corporation to really allow to be banned. At least for them.

Getting rid of us would be hard. I think you have the cases reversed.
If they might convince some fool to do it, they’d be fools not too eh?

That’s a lot of money!

Re:We Won't "Just Hang Out" on Thursday October 29, 2026 @08:25PM (#50298277)
People who have kids are replacing/outnumbering those who don’t.
Re:We Won't "Just Hang Out" on Thursday October 29, 2026 @08:24PM (#50298258)
Compared to mass unemployment, eating dog food to stay alive, etc. which is the other obvious alternative? Why do you think the musks of the world keep touting it.
Re:We Won't "Just Hang Out" on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:41PM (#50293907)
The entire idea is just a trap, and an illusion sold by folks like musk while they continue to do what they do.

The only way it would be funded is with ‘chains’/conditions.

Re:We Won't "Just Hang Out" on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:38PM (#50293860)
Why would such an AGI not just prefer the sociopath and psychopaths? They are likely much easier to control.
Re:We Won't "Just Hang Out" on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:37PM (#50293850)
Why do you think it would be a post-scarcity world? Normally, those in power turn the screws to force others into scarcity to ‘induce’ compliance.
Re:We Won't "Just Hang Out" on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:34PM (#50293820)
It’s literally happening right now.
That is due to the inevitable scaling that occurs with volume, it is not necessary in any sort of physics sense.

You can try it yourself - you can literally harvest/mine coal with a shovel yourself in many areas, and burn it in a fireplace if you don’t mind how dirty it is.

Romanians have a variant which is a bit less flattering.
Coal by it’s nature is much less amenable (from a physics/chemistry) perspective to automation and high resolution control. Less pure/refined, granular instead of a gas, harder to start and burns longer once started, etc.

Contaminants in the coal (due to it being a solid mineral) also means it burns with a lot often toxic ash that is hard to deal with.

On the plus side, you can often literally use an excavator to dig it up and put it in the back of a train and then burn it with minimal other capital equipment.

It all makes sense.

The clear answer is that wrongdoing also needs to be ‘too big to fail’. Small, low impact shit will get you targeted.

Something so heinous it would make who-shot-Kennedy a forgotten footnote? Everyone is going to cover that up.

They only want the pics you want to hide, duh.
