If the election really was stolen they seem pretty docile about it. It was posturing. That’s more consistent with the evidence.

Has January 6th already slipped from your mind? Aside from that it's strange to suggest we should ignore what people said, consistently, for years.

Even January 6th was fairly docile. Nobody there seems to have had any genuine desire for violence, except the feds who were only too eager to open fire at the earliest excuse. When I think of January 6th, I imagine pictures of people laughing as they sit in chairs they're not allowed to sit on, smiling as they're waving flags in foyers they're not supposed to be in, and a trigger happy fed executing that woman whose name escapes me right now.

Put it this way: I'd much much much prefer January 6thers came through my town than BLM.

Calls to hang the vice president of the united states are docile? People trying to hunt down specific members of congress docile? Breaking down doors docile? You're gaslighting hard here. Clearly people believed the false claims about the election and were taking action about it.

This isn't docile: https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/jan-6-ri...

Re:The Meltdown at CNN by HaroldBolt78 on Monday June 05, 2023 @05:16AM (#36194094)
Sure they believed it, but that doesn't mean they were violent or dangerous. There weren't going to be any politicians dangling from lightposts that day. Left alone for long enough, they would've eventually got bored and gone home.

Far worse things were said of Trump every day on Twitter throughout his presidency (and beyond), I don't think empty threats from the frustrated and powerless are anything to be taken seriously.

All of this hasn't stopped the US Gestapo locking up political opponents for decades as a result of Jan 6th, even those who didn't even attend. So it was a very useful day for one side. It makes even more sense when you consider that they refuse to release video evidence from the day because of how many feds' covers they'd blow.

This is the only thing in question here. No need for further defense of the insurrection from you.

Re:The Meltdown at CNN by HaroldBolt78 on Monday June 05, 2023 @11:34AM (#36197786)
In question was whether or not they are "docile" about it.
Re:The Meltdown at CNN by hinkley on Monday June 05, 2023 @12:26PM (#36198709)
I don’t know how they saw themselves on Jan 5, but afterward they’ve acted like a bunch of teenagers who threw a tantrum and now want to be indulged for a misunderstanding (leniency).

As serious as the charges are, I think we should honor their desires because it belittles the entire pack of idiots.

People doing serious jail time for something that was so stupid, it deflated them.

Do you mean they acted like a BLM mostly-peaceful conflagration "protest" except they didn't pick a designer sunglass store clean, torch 50,000 to 70,000 private and public vehicles, loot and burn 100,000+ businesses, murder 25 people, throw nailbombs at federal court houses, claim a 2x1 block as a "autonomous zone," beat up kids for wearing red hats, and ultimately doing $2,000,000,000 in damage over a 7 months long campaign of domestic terrorism?
Re:The Meltdown at CNN by scarface_74 on Monday June 05, 2023 @02:11PM (#36200498)
So how do you think the response would have been if a bunch of black folks invaded the capital or an armed group of Black men were in the state capital in Michigan causing them to postpone their session?
Re:The Meltdown at CNN by PM_me_your_math on Tuesday June 06, 2023 @04:39PM (#36218786)
Like when democrats bombed the senate building?
Re:The Meltdown at CNN by scarface_74 on Wednesday June 07, 2023 @10:54AM (#36227545)
When did that happen?

Is there a fairly neutral source on January 6? I can only find partisan ones, and the photos and video I saw seem very benign. Is there a decent writeup that draws it all together?

Re:The Meltdown at CNN by krapp on Monday June 05, 2023 @01:37PM (#36199918)
Assuming you don't intend to dismiss any source that doesn't paint an entirely benign image as being partisan, there is the Wikipedia page[0]. Of course, it's easy to find plenty of non-benign images and video from the event, it's odd that you've apparently never encountered them.

What’s “benign” about trespassing in a government building causing lawmakers and the VP to go into hiding?
Re:The Meltdown at CNN by robertlagrant on Friday June 09, 2023 @04:23AM (#36254905)
I think with almost any other protest group, trespassing would not be being thought of this severely.
Re:The Meltdown at CNN by adl on Thursday June 08, 2023 @09:04AM (#36241201)
People died. It was not "very benign".
Re:The Meltdown at CNN by robertlagrant on Thursday June 08, 2023 @12:46PM (#36244866)
I thought that was a person who was climbing in through a window and was shot by police? Were there others?
Re:The Meltdown at CNN by bobsmooth on Monday June 05, 2023 @11:41PM (#36207782)
What about that unscheduled building tour is so important?
Re:The Meltdown at CNN by IOT_Apprentice on Monday June 05, 2023 @03:39PM (#36202365)
Aside from storming the Capital, intending to beat & murder politicians they don’t like, smearing feces on the walls and parading confederate flags through it, and general white rage, you mean?
