The roundness is getting out of hand.

Is this just change for the sake of pretending there is advancement instead of stagnation?

Probably. Outside foldable devices and having more powerful hardware, I think there aren't many other noticeable advancements in smartphones over the latest years, so this is a fresh "coat of paint".

All these apps redesigning to Material you, I'm not seeing any difference. Maybe it's because of dark mode.

It would be so much nicer if services just hosted APIs, provided a key, and users could code their own interface, share them as Docker containers (for desktop web anyway).

I don’t need a Gmail or Lyft UX as they see it, I need to CRUD records in their database for them to distribute accordingly.
