Because of this post, I just found out about Human Resource Machine...

I’m hooked. Currently I’m trying to optimize my Level 17 solution.

I hope these people continue producing new games.

If you want a slightly quicker REPL for HRM, I've got a clunky-but-functional CLI version that I use when I'm at work for testing ideas - https://bitbucket.org/rjp/hrm/src/master/

Pull requests gratefully accepted, etc.

When following the link to the repository, I'm forced to login, then receive an access denied error from Bitbucket. Is the repository private?

Ah, bugger, sorry, I thought I’d made it public a while back but obviously didn’t. Apologies again, it’s definitely public now.

Is there a way to view the repo without signing up?

Should be possible now; I had mistakenly thought it was public already. Apologies for that.

They actually just recently released a sequel to Human Resource Machine called "7 Billion Humans". Builds on the gameplay but adds parallelism
Re:World of Goo Update, 10 Years Later by daemin on Thursday May 02, 2019 @08:33AM (#19807156)
It's actually a different mechanism entirely. Human Resource Machine is optimising a single threaded small memory process. (Single Instruction Single Data) 7 Billion Humans is about massively parallel programming more like code on a GPU. (Single Program Multiple Data) The ways to solve the puzzles are very different because of this, and it's interesting but not a way of optimising that I'm used to (so I haven't finished it yet!).

I love games like Human Resource Machine. If you’re interested in more games of that genre, check out TIS-100, Shenzhen I/O, and SpaceChem!

Also in a same-but-different kind of way, Opus Magnum (but then you can spiral out into Factorio and other games of its ilk)

It sounds like you guys aren't aware of EXAPUNKS, which is Zachtronics newest game. It's my favorite of the whole bunch, you guys should check it out! You get a hacker zine to print out along with it!

The speed at which Zachtronics pumps out quality games is astonishing to me. Every time I buy one, it hooks me immediately and 5 hours later I'm still playing.

You’re right, I wasn’t aware of EXAPUNKS. Checking it out now!
