Finnish is in a totally different language family than Swedish-Norwegian-Danish. However Viking performs the same result. I am wondering the outcome when using Viking for Hungarian, as it is a near relative to Finnish.
Every time I read news like this I am wondering what an average household has hanging on the internet, totally vulnerable.
Sounds legit, thanks! I am wondering then what is a good solution for this kind of issues? A physical switch on the freezer that enables/disables remote control over remote monitoring? However the operators will leave this switch on for convenience.
While I totally understand the need of remote controlling some kind of freezer units, please explain for me, why on the earth do a grocery store need online freezers? The shops are usually open and have on-place human staff 7 days a week, 10-16 hours a day.
I can answer to myself: Yes, most likely it is a hack since other occurances overnight: https://www.svt.se/nyheter/lokalt/skane/icas-kylar-och-frysa...
Did they really investigate the incident and found out it was a hack?

I give up reading this because of the dumb scrolling
Re:Ask HN: We tax labour, why not tax AI? on Thursday October 29, 2026 @08:34AM (#50287942)
Purpose of taxation is to fund something that benefits society but needs to be paid for.

What exactly do you think AI tax incomes should be used for? Developing government funded LLMs? Providing free AI access to those who can't afford?

Or is it simply about milking the rich?

Re:DietPi v10.8 has been released on Thursday October 29, 2026 @08:29AM (#50287886)
I updated my DietPi a few days ago ;) I'd like to thank you all for your work and effort.

Interestingly I'd never heard of DietPi before. I just wanted to set up printer sharing at home using a RaspberryPi. When I asked ChatGPT for help it recommended DietPi. Setup went superfluidly.

I've been happy with it ever since and have never regretted giving it a try.

It was almost as hard than buying a Ryanair ticket for the list price.
Just two notices: Sentences should start with a capital letter. The question mark is missing from the end of the sentence in the title.

It seems like this company is on its way to a toxic workplace. And you are just an employee, not a co-owner. You even mentioned earlier in another submission that you would like to start own business. Focus on that! Look for a new job in the meantime if you need it.

Ask HN: How many screens do you usually work with?

In my programming team, it’s pretty common to use two monitors (sometimes one is turned vertical) along with a laptop as a third screen. But I usually stick to just one screen and switch between them using keyboard shortcuts or hot corners instead. What about you? What do you prefer, and why?

Ask HN: Have you switched to a remote job? Was it worth it?

Right now, I work in a flexible way: I usually have to be in the office, but I can work from home some days when I want or need to. The workplace isn’t toxic, and I don’t really have any major complaints.Still, I’m thinking about quitting and finding a full-remote job. The main reason is to save around 2-3 hours each day and spend that time with my family instead. It’s not just the commute...

I believe it has some advantages that while you are waiting at the train station your clock shows exactly the same time as the train conductor’s several miles away from you.

Ask HN: Best Combinations of Online Ads?

I will start a webshop and looking for recommendations of advertising my products. I have heard many stories of an online business was suddenly banned by Google or Meta so they lost 100% of purchases, because that was the only one source of their customers.

Though I absolutely agree, you should learn to ignore the things that disturbs. Today the AI, last year the crypto, two years ago the NFT, three years ago the Covid… there always will be something. Just skip them right in the head.

And we are not old. Just oldschool. But it’s good.

Re:Ask HN: Favorite Debugging Story? on Monday October 02, 2023 @09:25AM (#37737765)
Happened to me not once and not twice: Editing local code, but checking changes on the remote server. And going crazy, why nothing changes?
Somehow it is not the Word/Excel file readability why I must buy Office license. But the Teams.
What is exactly the problem with Discord? (I mean I personally do not like Discord, but would know what others think.)
Re:Ask HN: How do I code offline for a week? on Monday October 02, 2023 @01:13AM (#37734254)
Do you really need to code on a vacation? (I assume this is not a job-related trip if the destination is the middle of nowhere.)
Re:The way I limit my social media consumption on Wednesday September 20, 2023 @10:58AM (#37585040)
I came for this comment. This. Author did not limited social media, just cheating themselves.

Just delete your accounts and never go back. The family, the workmates, the children’s school can reach you when it really needed. All other stuff is just litter what they share there.

Re:Improving your online privacy: An update on Tuesday September 19, 2023 @11:12AM (#37571059)
I am really looking forward when this becomes a base topic in the elementary schools (including tips how to use mobile apps). Right now it’s self-evident that children learn using Chrome and Google

Re:Free Family Tree Builder on Thursday September 14, 2023 @05:48AM (#37506873)
Strongly not recommended to use!

Privacy policy and TOS was just copy pasted from some template, I bet that the owner didn´t even read. Even worse: the owner didn´t even care, probably.

Assuming that TOS is knowingly written: "By displaying Your Content, you grant Family Tree Builder a non-exclusive, worldwide irrevocable, sub licensable license to use, reproduce, adapt, publish, translate and distribute it in any and all media."

This is exactly what I DON´T want to happen with my family members data.

Very unpopular opinion: The Fresh section of 9gag is often suprisingly up-to-date.
