Fwiw I've had this happen with Mistral, I fell right in the middle of them changing from opt-out to opt-in AND removing of their org-wide dial. They reversed that last decision (the org-wide dial returned) about 48 hours later, but in the process they turned all sliders for all my staff back to "on". Not sure if it was all malicious (I think not, just a very crappy move that hit our trust in them pretty bad). After some emails they ensured me they stored no data for training. But strange things happen.
Hmm in that case his germline cells could be ok...
As a molecular biologist I would almost want to investigate if somehow the total expression of, or accessibility of this man's third Chromosome 21 is somehow reduced because this person seems to be very close to normal (2xchr21) humans on the normal to severe Down syndrome -spectrum. I have seen people with 2 times 21 with a more Down syndrome-like face than this man's even.
I mean it really should be 6 rules or something, then with some click through for more info and then perhaps some (very) practical, immediately actionable tips, perhaps then some stories of diginoobs apply these rules and getting their butts saved by them.
This is just... More like, I as a cyber specialist can use this to wave in normies' faces like: See! You don't even understand the basics! Pay me! (Which I won't do btw.) I mean it's a g-damned PDF man. A wall of text. Jeez.
You have SI now over there, next up, SI units!
But then the supplier is responsible, why would you ever put a fridge online if you are are tech noob. Someone told these people to put these fridges online, they didn't put an Ethernet cable in the back by themselves for the fun of it.

It's pretty hard to ignore if your government not only intertwines with the tech industry in ways that no government should with any industry, but even starts changing language used in the field by decree [0] in a 1984-esque way. Us non-USers run into these kind of things on platforms we use everyday (platforms that are gracefully provided by the US, for sure! Although we have our own here in the EU, the US still sets the standard... for now) like [1].

We have it too in The Netherlands "wildplassen", since the Dutch "wild" (as in "in the wild") can indeed also be translated as "wild" (as in uncontrolled), the standard response when caught is "No officer, I was, in fact, peeing very calmly."
Really loving such responses to POTUS, I hope they don't spend too much of our tax money on addressing his childishness though, although, in PR this probably has good ROI :)
I always think of Conway's Game of Life in this regard. He (Conway) seems to not think that much of his invention, but to me it is THE understandable proof that nearly anything can emerge from simple rules. Even the Game of life itself [0]. It's the basis (or rather important theme) of Permutation city (Greg Egan) [1], from 1994 (!) That guy is so ahead of his time, him and Ted Chiang are my fav authors.
This stuff is like staring the universe into its soul.

Its just what exponential growth looks like?
From Claude:

That's also well into clanker managed territory ;) (I mean the clanker builds a small automation, no LLM involved after that, I do a lot of that, just use clanker to build, update, organize, monitor and handle edge cases.)
Yeah this is really a blessing for people seeking more control over nice hardware with horrible software, "smart" spy TVs, Android (most ads on your) TV boxes, cheap insecure security camera's with only Crappy Cloud subscriptions... Go AI!
I've been compiling a list of cybersecurity RSS feeds to build a small automation (with oversight from Hermes agent) to ping me (ntfy.sh or just Telegram) when a CVE requires my intervention (matching them to a list of services I run for clients and myself.)
My list (of feeds) is still small, but this CVE did not show up, do any of you have any tips for RSS feeds to use for this purpose?
Or like me: Eventually you get used to -and learn to appreciate- nearly anything, and you enjoy that process of discovery?
I switch Android/iOS (and once Windows Mobile) every time I get a new phone (which is when it breaks, usually after 5-6 years), it's always a bit of pain, like now I really miss some iOS features (iPhone mini 12 did not survive the humid jungles of Malaysia), but my Pixel 10 with GrapheneOS has some cool things, like a desktop mode! I'm beginning to appreciate the (in screen) fingerprint reader, but indeed, at first I really missed face-id. Overal Android (at least GrapheneOS) is more like a full computer than iOS. Which has pros and cons. And, hooray for LibrePods ;) (AirPods work without it, but it adds some nice things.)
I also feel a switch to KDE/Konveyor coming up after years of vanilla Gnome...
Btw, the normal Claude app does work.
Like with TXitter (which seems to show one tweet, or a bit more) I will simply not see Reddit information anymore. Thanx for all the fish I guess. Tbh the web uit (except for old.reddit) was already horrible enough to annoy the S out of me whenever I landed on it.
Was hoping for a conversational AI that can do background talks, was just curious, but I prefer to set it all up using Hermes anyway.
Still disappointing to see so when things are not working on Graphene, though for some apps I suspect it's because I'm on Android 17?
Weird thing is that my banking is app is well known for not being allowed because "it uses the stricktest setting" (whatever that is) yet install and runs fine via Aurora store...
Can't use it, won't log me in on GrapheneOS. ("Can't be verified via Google Play")
I often think of Picard looking down at us, through a force field in the Enterprise D, sees our wars, our inequalities and slowly shakes his head: "Savages". In his role as Picard he was a bit of a teacher to me.
It's what we do ;). I'll never forget my visit to the Delta Werken, 35 years ago? Remove our dikes, boom, half the country gone.
Anyway, the Netherlands also seems to be an attractive place to build datacenters.
A connectome is typical grown, in wombs around the earth... DNA contains all the information needed to build it. I think we should start there, not with a printer.
Is this the precursor to biological computers? I mean, biological computers don't have transistors as a basis, nor does this...
And before any answers with "But these neurons are very different to biological neurons!": Yes I know, I'm a biologist, I cultured neurons. But, these neurons are closer to neurons than semiconductor transistors.
Yes, perhaps, and that is annoying for poster, it also happens that people tell me that and I am annoyed. But there are times when it is justified. I believe this to be such a time, but perhaps I'm wrong.

Hi HN.I am a "sys-admin/software dev/anything IT" for some smaller companies. Recently I've been doing a lot of work securing our infra following the PHP madness, weekly GitLab CVEs, and yesterday Tailscale's issues (though they didn't require intervention directly, they prompted me to do research), etc.Mostly I become aware of these issues through some of my favorite blogs, like HN, but also...
