Re:The U.S. Is Bullying Europe Like Never Before on Monday November 02, 2026 @09:24PM (#50347195)
Yes, we love bullying places that have 100 million more people us but also $9.3 trillion less GDP than us. It appears the "sick man of Europe" is…Europe? Heal thyself. We need you guys back in the game.
Very well organized and curated. Some of these symbols are quite…groovy. Looking through randomly it becomes clear how much variety we have lost in current branding and graphic design. The trend has been towards homogenization to the extent that you can't tell what anything is anymore. The Jaguar logo looks like a phone company. The Airbnb logo looks like a women's undergarment company. And every AI logo looks like a gaping butthole.
It used to be that horse punters were the only degenerates around. Now everyone is full-on degen. I typically find the phrase "late stage capitalism" stupid and overplayed. However, I think it applies. Only people who have given up hope get sucked into this stuff.
As penance we should infill said hole with San Francisco. Pretty much fits with room to spare.
Another shitshow brought to you by H1-b Visas.

Yes, but it’s death by a thousand cuts. I encourage you to see how much BS space is taken up by iMovie or Live Photos or whatever on your iPhone. If every team at Apple wants their percentage you end up with less.
Do you often go peering into the mouths of gift horses?
Re:America.gov – Whatever you need from government, start here on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @08:55PM (#49903030)
Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed. Thought it was hilarious.
Takeaway:

>If we look at the number of foreign-born residents, the 2024 estimate was the highest in the Census Bureau’s series, which stretches back to 1850. So, on that measure, the 2024 figure was unprecedented.

Anyone going to buy the Woz chardonnay?
Re:Principles for a New Utopianism on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @08:02PM (#49734728)
General life rule: anytime you hear anyone trying to sell you on utopia, run for the nearest exit.
Is this actually representing homeless encampments?

The woman wrote Jolene. If that doesn’t get you to heaven then nothing will.

This guy gets serious bonus points for all the typography incorporated into the objects. Even if he didn’t include it the amount of detail is amazing.
Do you live in America? You seem to be under the mistaken impression that it is a zero sum game. It isn’t.
What if you asked the opposite question?

Perhaps some members of society will choose to swear off LLMs entirely. "Clauddites"?
Ah, the CSAM saga. Very poorly handled by Apple. Suspect it may have taken Hair Force One off the shortlist of CEO succession.

If you have a late afternoon flight out of Chicago and free time earlier that day then you would have time to do a tour here. Very enjoyable.
Re:What AI did to stackoverflow in a graph on Saturday July 18, 2026 @11:43AM (#48959134)
Perhaps the harshest lesson of stackoverflow is that it represented what happens when you give programmer-types unfettered control of a culture. A bitter pill indeed.
What could go wrong?
Re:Show HN: 18 Words on Monday July 13, 2026 @07:57PM (#48900573)
Nice! I don't mind the timer at all. A couple of suggestions: 1) if a chosen letter in the word is correct but the word itself is wrong it would be nice if the correct letter(s) is/are highlighted. For example, I had a couple letters in "calendar" correct but the word was wrong and it may have been good to know I was on the right track. 2) I didn't see a 'clear selection' option. This would have been useful. I saw the word with a few seconds left but didn't have time to reset and then time ran out.

This re-triggered my FAANG burnout. Thanks.
The irony of Mein Kampf suffering the streisand effect is not lost.
Looking forward to picking up copies of The Bell Curve and The Camp of the Saints since free speech is now so widely supported in Europe.
