There exists something like this for Rutgers University. Anyone can submit a course to be tracked along with email, and once a course pops up as open, an email is sent. Text messages are not used since they are not free and this project is maintained by students, not university. But it can be easily modified and self-hosted since the source is on Github: https://github.com/v/sniper

Ask HN: Battery capacity of Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom vs. top tier smarthpones

So recently I was made aware of the Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom. Here's a terse comparison of this phone to two of the currently top tier phones: (the reason I chose Plus and XL versions was due to the fact that their dimensions are comparable to those of Zenfone)Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom [0]--------------------------------------------Battery: 5000mAhDimensions: 6.07 x 3.03 x 0.31 inWeight: 170 gramsScreen:...

Play the numbers game. You definitely have software development experience so apply 'as total stranger' to as many places as you can through their jobs section. With the giants (Google, FB, Amzn, etc) it may be harder to hear back from this way, but mid-sized and smaller companies are more likely to respond to you. While applying for internships and new grad positions, overall I applied to more places 'as total stranger' as opposed to via referrals from friends and received responses.

Ask HN: What is a good way to get into trading cryptocurrency as a developer?

I have limited knowledge about trading cryptocurrency, so obviously I need to educate myself about that first (feel free to suggest some resources). I do have a strong CS background thus specifically I'm looking for advice/resources that could show me how to utilize my CS knowledge in cryptocurrency trading.

Re:Software Engineering Internship Amazon Interview Experience on Wednesday November 30, 2016 @08:13PM (#13076216)
Yes and no. I think Amazon is trying to make their intern recruitment process more efficient. By eliminating cheating possibilities, people who do not meet certain criteria will not move forward and thus there will be less phone screens to schedule.
Re:Show HN: Using Wikipedia as a dictionary on Sunday January 18, 2015 @11:27AM (#8907871)
Good point! I'll try to emphasize that more. And yes the plan at one point is to do the reverse as well, or dictionary of any language to any language :)
Re:Show HN: Using Wikipedia as a dictionary on Saturday January 17, 2015 @04:09PM (#8905518)
Whenever I wanted to see how an English titled movie was called in another language I would look it up on Wikipedia, scroll down and click the corresponding language that I wanted on the left hand side. Well this little app does exactly that. The query inputted does not have to be a movie title, it can be anything that you want translated from English to another language. If a specific language is selected, you get to see a side by side comparison of Wikipedia translation and dictionary translation (powered by Yandex). This app is not perfect, but it has the basics needed to work. As of right now the app just picks the first Wikipedia article that it finds for the given query. In the future I plan to allow a user to pick from many related titles that Wikipedia returns. If you follow the link, on there you will find a link to the source on Github. Let me know what you think!

Re:HN Please Add Target Property to Links on Thursday October 02, 2014 @09:07PM (#8403969)
Using the middle-button click and/or control-left click open still works the same with the 'target="_blank"' specified so this wouldn't affect the way you do things anyway

HN Please Add Target Property to Links

Majority of sites that have links open them up in a new tab upon clicking. This behaviour would be great on HN (at least the main page) so that way I can click on a link, read it, and close it. This way I don't navigate away from HN, and don't have to worry about opening a link in a new tab myself. Here's the quick obvious template with addition of the target property: <a...
