Re:Blinded after applying contact lenses with wet hands on Wednesday April 12, 2017 @07:56AM (#14096758)
I tried contacts twice, a few years apart. On both occasions, a few weeks in, I ended up sitting in front of an opthalmologist having had what seems to have been a corneal abrasion from the contact lens. The opthalmologist couldn't find anything wrong, and I can only guess that maybe a dry eye caused the lens to stick to both the ball and lid, then moving the lid yanked the lens and in turn the ball. Seriously sharp pain and eye streaming.
Agreed. I don't even know any europeans talking about leaving.

That is interesting, ta, although more work for the author.

I think the striking point is that you're forced to use a throwaway to have an opinion.

I've given up on my dev dept. I'm sitting in the finance dept.

Re:Missiles of North Korea on Monday January 09, 2017 @06:45AM (#13355638)
So you're saying it's only self defence? In that case what's the fuss?
Re:Missiles of North Korea on Monday January 09, 2017 @05:47AM (#13355406)
What is NK's goal? They know perfectly well that to launch a nuke against another country, especially the US, could result in NK being entirely obliterated. ~30 mostly little cites: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_in_North_Korea How far along has this strategy been considered?

Ah, but the two Italian Lamborghinis were donated. Otherwise I would've been very unimpressed.

This might help you see that view is simplistic:

"Owing to Britain's recent Brexit-related problems.." -- I'm not aware of any Brexit-related economic problems. On the contrary, all news I've seen since has been positive, to the surprise, and disappointment, of many.

I can't even begin to grasp how this is HN front page. No offence, but in the world of tech is this really in the top 30 most interesting things?

Agreed. I used to use the app religiously, I'm now using News Republic more often. I don't watch on the TV at all anymore, it makes me feel foul. I remember watching a BBC journalist throw bottles of water for a group of desperate people, who reacted by sidestepping the bottles and continuing to watch the idiot in front of the camera, completely disinterested in the water. Of course, he only started "assisting" the desperate after he'd finished his drawn out description of how desperate they were. They're increasingly tabloidy in order to maintain market share, but it's just increasingly repulsive.
The UK is as corrupt as everyone claims Russia is, starting with the BBC. Theresa May has turned out to be a tyrant. As a Brit, I don't know if I'm more disgusted by the arrogance of the ruling class, or the apathy of the subservient working class. Dystopia is here. Talk of bloody revolution is not necessary - the first cyber revolution?
Yes. These companies have teams of people spewing out a list of values for PR, and thinking that they have Jedi mind trick powers over the employees (on some people it actually works!). It's the company image, not how the company operates.
As a non-physicist I was thinking the molecules become jammed, immobilised upon expansion; for want of a better analogy a swollen foot in a shoe, no more wiggle room. But the article says that the solid water does melt at even higher temperatures.

What are the estimated costs for (something like) this?

I've had similar, but not with skydiving. I've only done one dive, and it was pleasant, lovely view, but did absolutely nothing for me in terms of adrenaline, at all. What did work for me was commuting by cycle in London, flat out race with everything for 10km. Legs burning, drop the temperature, maybe some snow in the eyes, bring on the elements. Great stuff. Winter is great for that, cold at first, but ride hard, warm up, and get to work without needing a shower.
The BBC is dodgy. That might sound like blasphemy, but year after year I'm increasingly aware of blatant bias, omissions, misrepresentations. The BBC is not to be trusted.

* The pound plummeting like a rock. - Expected period of adjustment.

* Xenophobia, bordering on fascism, being advocated by the press. - BBC is nothing but a continuous charity appeal.

* The gradual, quiet, handing of the NHS to private companies. - Precedes Brexit.

* Ever growing demand for food banks, most notably by people working jobs that don't pay enough to fulfil basic needs. - Precedes Brexit.

* The only vaguely viable opposition to the government self-destructing right when they're needed most. - Precedes Brexit.

Completely off-topic.

Confidence underlies the economic outlook - the remainers being negative are now the UK's biggest problem.
