Curious, what is the name of the app?
Any plans to open source it?
True that... It depends on the nature of the app and the audience.
I love your answer... Couple of questions. 1. When did you hire a designer for your iOS app? 2. Was the designer involved in creating wireframes? 3. Are you self funded? If not, then I think, hiring a designer would have been easy.
I assume that the author of post will switch design and work with a UX engineer when the site starts making money. When you have nothing $50.00 for a theme sounds great. Imagine, no one knows about your site so there is no point in building a site from day one which will scale to handle a million users. Launch first, iterate later.
Let's look at it this way... Someone is an indie developer working late nights and he/she wants to release a web app and see what happens. They have the money for hosting and coding skills. If the web app gains traction and makes money, then they could think about hiring an UX engineer.
It makes sense when it comes to building web apps. I don't think it works when you are building an iOS app. Is there a site which sells iOS app themes?
Thanks for the article Tom. Knowing that I could use a theme from themeforest has opened my eyes. I always get stuck when it comes to designing the front end part. I wish you all the best with your site.
Any news on fixing the exploit? Is the option being considered by dropbox?
It is also good to partner up with someone who is good at building business.
With the advent of the app stores on mobile phones, I think it is possible to generate revenue (and profits too) by creating apps. Someone who is a game developer can build a business writing games for all the mobile platforms. If your business is not writing (and selling) games, I think you need to partner up with different players to increase the value of your service.
I think the app stores are letting us developers test our little apps without a business in the foreseeable future, which I think is great. If the app is a success then we can think of building a business around it.
I do feel that Google is sending out the message, that "your" app will do better in sales, if it's provided for free. I don't think it's healthy for a developer who wants to start a company writing Android apps. This is what gruber is saying (at-least a bit). Every app we write has a value to it. I don't think 99 cents is the right price but free is definitely wrong. What happens when someone writes an app that blocks ads on the Android phone. Now, the developer is not making any money from his free apps. If giving things away for free becomes the norm in the Android app store, then it will end up hurting the developer and Google in the long run.
There is a safety net to selling an app for a price (not free), because the sales give an indication if the users like it or not and where to direct the energy.
Also, 37 signals doesn't believe in giving away apps for free.
Disclaimer: I am saying this without holding the actual device and without seeing a video.
Everyone, seems to think that we will be able to see updates on the home screen itself, which I don't think will work.
For example email: What will I see on the homescreen? who sent the email, when it was sent? will I see a brief message on the screen? How much information will I see in a tiny box/slice/tile. I don't think I will be able to see a lot of it.
Twitter: I think, I will be able to see the last tweet. A little helpful.
Facebook updates: I think it would work same as twitter.
The user has to launch an app to get the complete information. I think its bad if MS tries to make the phone into a taskbar notification system.
wow, I love it. Your "Add Recipe" page works exactly like mine, but I never made my site live. This is the site I thought was missing but you made it first :-) I will be using it for sure
I am no where close to pune, but I will check it out when I come to visit my family.
Yes, I found one. It is open to public only on tuesday's, so I will have to check it out. Thanks for the tip.

I love astronomy, and I wanted to become an astronomer since I was kid. I build web sites now.I would love to do something about it. I would buy a telescope, but I rent an apartment on the 9th floor and I have windows only on one side of the room. I don't even know where to start. After work hours, I am working on my pet projects, and I would love to do something with astronomy.Any suggestions?
Yes, there may be some common attributes and I don't think it is biochemical when it comes to male friends.
I feel that someone can look at the problem differently. To make a site based on a common interest and get people to pay for it. The users of the site will find a way to make friends.
"You can choose your friends and not your family".
1. I don't think an algorithm could be developed to find friends. On the other hand, I think people make friends on game sites where, they strike out on their own to make friends. Even meet up sites, where you go to play golf with a bunch of strangers or go play chess.
2. I don't think this kind of site will get traction and people will not pay for it.
eHarmony exists because it makes finding your potential mates easier, it is for people who have given up on bars and friend's recommendation. Yes, there are other ways to meet people but the frequency of finding a good mate will be very less, I think.
I think people just become friends who get along with each other and don't look for friendship actively, like we look for dates on a dating site.
The concept of a site finding a friend has always bothered me, like facebook is trying to find a friend for me or saying "share more info to find more friends"...
The best thing you can do is launch a portal for like minded people to mingle.
Everything cannot be solved by technology.
True, I agree that it will take a while. Turning physical pages is fun :-)
Yes, I think it would take some time to get used to it.
My only issue with reading on kindle like devices is the way it changes the page. I don't think I can stand that. I feel like that would bother my eyes.
EDIT: That is the only thing stopping me from buying one.
I am not sure if it's a virus or not but the site is trying to install something and my symantec just complained and I closed the browser. I think it was the article.
This looks cool but is this free?

I took the first step of buying stocks, but I have no idea what I am doing. Can you please share some resources that made you better?
I would like to know why people say "In a world, where there is only apple devices..." and make a claim. Please don't get angry or upset, but I am really curious. I think it comes across a bit negative.
lala.com will not relaunch. Talent or technology will be integrated into iTunes and the consumers will get a something new.
