Thank you for doing that. We're all better off with people who use their good fortune to help others in need.
It's mentioned in the article (reference to Tupac song)
Agreed - quite a shock to realize the type of person who is now in charge (haven't kept up to date on leadership here)

Funny how serious / loner type people often open up when you ask them to help spot your bench press. At least that's been my experience, that moment of them helping you out at your vulnerable time somehow lowers the guard / the friction to chatting

An interesting read on the relative likelihood of consciousness of various lifeforms on earth: https://rethinkpriorities.org/publications/opinion-estimatin...

Long story short, relative chance of plant consciousness is a lot lower than that of members of animal species.

Regardless, the point is moot - if plants are sentient, that's even more an argument to consume less of them, directly, vs a lot more of them, via animals.

Growing up always thought about the thought experiment of how aliens would treat us compared with how we treat our fellow sentient beings in the animal kingdom (I couldn't find a good answer and stopped consuming animals). Now with a potential for AGI and perhaps sentient AI in coming years or decades, those philosophical questions suddenly become a lot more pressing

What startup deliberately builds back doors to siphon away customer funds with the knowledge of only the founders, and deliberately misleads internal finance folks.

Who "lends" customer funds without any documentation to let founders buy multi million dollar property in their own personal names

This isn't messy, move fast break things of a startup, it's fraud

Can it be for week or month instead of current day?
Re:Show HN: Don't Break the Chain on Monday February 01, 2021 @02:52PM (#25992866)
Nice but this would be better as an app with notifications.. hard to remember to return daily to a website

Ask HN: Landing page for non technical founder?

I have to get a landing page up for a new startup idea (consumer service). It's a biz I'll get folks to do for clients, so no coding required. What's a good landing page builder a business founder can use that integrates nicely into stripe/subscriptions?

We're meant to be the new product guys and come up with the new ideas, asking users to come up with new product suggestions is a recipe for a product that does a lot and not well.

In a past web forum I used to admin the users would ask for a million different things and if we implemented them all it would have been chaos.

At the end of the day someone has to have a creaive vision and see it executed, even if it only does one thing.. but does it really well..

Good to see real numbers in these sort of articles..

But let’s face it - users are never going to tell you what they need...or what you should build.

Shouldn’t they have spent more time building a great product first - before launching it? Those retention numbers to me say the product wasn’t working.

I doubt Apple asked any users for input when coming up with the iPhone.

Nice write up. Interesting how you discovered a different use case with the tech and ran with it
Good question - we see a lot of value in our tool, hence are leaning towards paid rather than free plans ala basecamp or zendesk. We're also bootstrapped so really focussed on bringing in revenue earlier..
Thanks for the feedback, yes agree about having a way to export data. Luckily we have that built in but have to implement the "not allow them to do further data entry" part..
Good question - our definition of best is the one that would maximise total revenue coming in (not so concerned with the number of accounts). ie- weighing the negatives of dropping more people at the start vs increased revenue of the remaining people who do sign on and give credit card when they remember and are interested in the service..

Ask HN: Ask for credit card at the start or end of free trial?

Hi HN, we're developing a new analytics tool for app developers which uses paid plans, each with a free trial.Any recommendations on whether to ask for credit card at start (required to begin) or end of trial period? Or what criteria to help us decide.ps - yes we can test it but won't have enough statistically significant traffic for a while

As a splitforce user this is pretty cool.. biggest issue is having to wait for conclusive results, whatever speeds this up and auto prunes away the losing options is welcome.

Good point about Steam. The community part is more important than the visual identity. Actually the avatar as a 2d icon or profile pic could do ok. Like in all the fb games.

I think also minecraft abstracts the detail, allowing you to use more imagination.

Interestingly Farmville 2 still kept it, bucking the recent trend
I'm also in the industry and I second this.

Speak plain English and explain in a nustshell what you do for whom.

Investors and brands are busy, make it easy for them.

Thanks for the blog post and valid point of view. Couple of suggestions on your business: - I couldn't find your site by googling play api. I think that's a pretty bad situation for prospective investors - your logo is one of the most unreadable ones I've come across - your title is very broad and not sure who its targeted at. How about something simpler like "create multiplatform branded games in seconds"

Good luck.

Applaud a great start! Add iOS support and a chrome extension and reverse direction as well and I'd use this all day every day.
Re:How does the top grossing iOS game make its money? on Wednesday August 29, 2012 @02:02AM (#4447297)
So the top grossing game doesn't actually have any gameplay. Does anyone else find this strange?
This happens all the time on the web as best practice. Don't see how mobile is different, especially when they seem to have the privacy options built in.

Ask HN: Android ARPU?

I had another problem - turned up to an ABnB place that was nothing at all like what was advertised and not at all acceptable for my needs (private room, non smoking etc). The photos didn't even match. I had to move out and find a motel for myself otherwise I would have been homeless.

I tried to contact ABnB, to find alternative place for me and nothing. No reply or anything that day, even though it was office hours. Really abysmal customer service. I'd hate to think if it was a more serious case...

Thanks, pushed back a bit and they seemed willing to compromise, so I guess it was just standard negotiating fare
