Re:What is it like to have never felt an emotion? on Wednesday October 07, 2015 @08:52AM (#10345655)
The title refers to the inability of feeling emotions - which is the same as "being without emotions".

The voice is not just upsetting b/c they conflict with expectations of how the mind works but those expectations will directly affect what the voice will say and how b/c the voice is part of that person.

Personally, I always wondered why nobody wondered why those "voices" tend to be destructive (at least in our western hemisphere). Now my question is partly answered with the information that this observation is not globally valid.

A lot of people use those types of biographies to justify their own destructive behaviour.
> That’s an average of $22.92/Gb or $0.0224 per megabyte

That is surprisingly expensive:

I live in Germany and pay monthly 10 Euro per 1.5GB - that's 6.7 Euro per GB or about 7.5 USD per GB ...

And that's not even a contract but prepaid on monthly basis.

Actually I could get 5 GB for 15 Euro thats 3 Euro or 3.4 USD per GB.

Is mobile traffic really about 5 to 6 times more expensive in the US?

Those curated lists poppung up all over the place seem to indicate a need for pre-Google-style Altavista/Yahoo portals.
The actual conclusion is hidden in the middle of the text:

eat less meat

First of all b/c its contribution to health is doubtable in general and at current times in particular.

Re:Why the Human Brain Project Went Wrong and How to Fix It on Monday September 28, 2015 @12:13PM (#10291180)
some people (very young children or mentally handicapped humans) don't ask those questions either.

furthermore there is a reason why in Buddhism this intellectual thinking and questioning is considered unessential to being.

Re:Netflix Data Reveals When TV Shows Hook Viewers on Thursday September 24, 2015 @09:20AM (#10271396)
I am absolutely not at all whatsoever impressed with Netflix' data science capabilities.

They waste one row for:

- watch it again ...

- they suggest stuff based on what I added to my list, but didn't watch yet

- they suggest movies based on what I started to watch but didn't finish - as if that wasn't an indicator for that I didn't like it

- ...

All those companies suggesting on varies channels how nifty and smart they work with their big data - and at the bottom line they just fail on actually improving something.

Re:An annotated version of the Bitcoin paper on Tuesday September 22, 2015 @05:57AM (#10257620)
If papers would be text formatted or if GitHub could render latex on the fly then this would exist already. It doesn't b/c PDF is how papers are dissemeniated - so it's great somebody took care of that gap!

Maybe a another good occasion to mention that coursera currently offers a Bitcoin MOOC run by some guys from Princeton - it's quite awesome.
