Did you assume op uses an iPhone?

> During a visit to the United States for the filming of the documentary The Man Who Saved the World, Petrov toured the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site in May 2007 and commented, "I would never have imagined being able to visit one of the enemy's securest sites."

That's actually really cool. Must've been really surreal.

Helps to stock up on USD I bet
Re:Ask HN: Why is HN becoming a DEAD link graveyard? on Saturday May 11, 2024 @03:41PM (#40330180)

What an untasteful advert.
And you think there will be an alternative that'll be strict on those things?
5 years in jail for editing some Pokemon save files? This seems like a parody of sort.
Re:Why is it so hard to build an airport? on Friday March 22, 2024 @01:03PM (#39792683)
I went digging out of curiosity, and it seems you are correct. According to this article [1], around 80 of the top 100 airports have rapid transit connections.

The option to disable auto download has been there since day 1.
Re:India unlikely to solve Japan's labor shortage on Tuesday October 03, 2023 @07:50AM (#37750610)
Simply no reason for skilled labour to go to Japan and learn Japanese than to go towards the West with higher salaries, no language requirements other than English and easier immigration paths.

There is also the terrible image of the Japanese work culture which is not going away anytime soon.

You still have to surrender your Indian passport within 3 months to avoid getting prosecuted.

This process also includes a visit to their embassy, giving them your original naturalisation certificate and photocopies of your new passport.

Takes about a month to receive a certificate from India for proof but definitely not as bad as what you described.

Re:UK’s Rishi Sunak considers weakening key green policies on Wednesday September 20, 2023 @10:25AM (#37584556)
There is a conference at No. 10 scheduled at 16.30 BST to announce it, so it's not just a thought.
Seems like an easy way of reducing CO2 emissions. Looking forward to the results on this - could get a lot of backpackers if they cheapen the tickets as well.
Re:The Power of Prolog on Tuesday September 12, 2023 @07:36AM (#37479518)
We had it in my comp sci bachelor's just a few years ago. But it was a small component of the AI course instead of being a big part of it. Fun stuff regardless.

Re:Will India’s Name Go the Way of Turkey? on Friday September 08, 2023 @04:43AM (#37431137)
The .bharat Internationalized TLD is already available in 22 Indian languages [1]. It isn't available in English however.

I personally don't think .in is going away anytime soon. The question you pose is already being pondered upon, like here [2].

Imagine the dread if they find out who wrote the code.

Also to be honest, shouldn't this have been better unit tested? Considering aviation is a ~ £60 billion industry for the UK.

Re:WhatsApp’s founder first pitch in the community on Tuesday September 05, 2023 @04:16AM (#37389147)
It was actually cool reading the history section on Wikipedia [1]. Especially the fact that one of the founders was ready to quit and look for a job!

Why do you think zoom got popular?
Re:Youtube2Webpage: Create Websites with Text from Videos on Thursday August 31, 2023 @04:36AM (#37334164)
That's a good website you posted.

I encountered the "need" for this functionality a few years ago to find the video of a YouTuber specifically saying something.

Back then I used a website that's actually specifically dedicated to the YouTuber (Northernlion): https://babypig.men/nlss-search?q=Basmati

I'm surprised the website is still live!

So you left the UK working a software engineer to work in the fields in Australia?
Re:Ridiculous captcha at GitHub to reset your password on Wednesday August 23, 2023 @07:49AM (#37234439)
That doesn't seem that difficult, why would you need 3 people for it?

Although, having to do it >5 times is a bit much.

Re:Railway Oriented Programming on Friday August 18, 2023 @04:17AM (#37172699)
Very gloomy weather in the United Kingdom today. Thanks for this!
You either reroute traffic from twitter domains to the new X domain and it's subdomains.

Or you only use X for the front end and it just connects to the twitter domain in the backend.

The former will affect the existing product and the latter is just making changes to the new front end. I'd prefer the latter.

Re:They Bypass YouTube Video Download Throttling on Monday August 14, 2023 @10:59AM (#37121806)
I was speaking from anectodal evidence because I've been feeling my 1080p streams look worse than before the new option showed up.

But it seems I'm mistaken [1].

I have to agree, it's an interesting topic with a bit of "hacking" masala and just very well written. Can't remember the last time I read a full article here.

They already lowered bitrates for non premium members.
Re:Why doesn't Gen Z want children? on Tuesday August 01, 2023 @10:31AM (#36956403)
What about your paternal instincts/need to progenate?

I'm gen z as well and I definitely want to be a father one day because to me, it is instinctual - something I need to do for fulfilment.

Monetary hurdles (and a terrible online dating environment) doesn't help of course and I'm assuming most people in my generation are in the same boat.
