My high school's was the strangest before they overhauled their site. One of the URLs was some sort of CGI spell check app: just a button and a field that said "I am spelled wrang"
At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the Pixhawk org. was more cautious about fail-safe systems than Tesla
I'm alright with the author mentioning it because some of the steering behavior is defined in software in newer cars.
Personally, I prefer electric steering because it takes so little torque input. My Mercedes cabrio was heavy and tiring to steer, but I can steer the Mirage with my fingertips. As a bonus, the steering is tuned to "tighten up" at speed, which effectively makes the car snappier without actually changing the alignment.
Re:The Case For Better Watch Typography on Tuesday March 23, 2021 @12:32PM (#26556930)
I find it easier to quickly read watches that have minutes printed instead of hours.

That looks like every phishing text I receive.

That's a beautiful website. Definitely bookmarking this one
I accidentally bought a gaming laptop that can't run Linux, so I'm stuck with Windows 10 exclusively. Although it really isn't that bad now.

My workplace uses SmartCAM, an ancient CAM package for manufacturing. It's probably not that bad, but I couldn't wrap my head around it compared to other CAM software. It turns solid geometry into low-poly mesh, and nothing is intuitive like Autodesk HSM.

It's a really well-sized unit for that kind of work. I know exactly what a thou is and how to keep things in spec, but I'm lost using mm.
Re:Reddit Status on Wednesday February 19, 2020 @08:41AM (#22365302)
Anecdotal, but old.reddit.com (besides search) seems to always work during these outages. I'm guessing they're always knocking out the AJAX and search machines for some reason
Re:MacBook 16-inch Fan Noise (2019) on Friday February 07, 2020 @10:24AM (#22266801)
My ASUS GA502 makes all kinds of noises. It has a loud coil whine when the keyboard backlight is off/dim, and the audio chipset is constantly popping the speakers by turning on and off to save power.

I bought it open box; the buyer probably went insane from the noise before they could even set up Windows.

My carburetor requires 0 data to operate!
Re:Ask HN: How to easily transfer files between devices on Tuesday November 19, 2019 @01:34PM (#21576449)
Could you make something like the old Windows Personal Server [1], but dummy-proof? Make the app a DYNDNS client and let them register subdomains on your short domain (mybox.foo.bar/file.png). Essentially just a very simple server like XAMPP that users can drop their files into.

I'm guessing the camera isn't used for aircraft separation since nearly everything has ADS/B now.
Not a web developer, but Grav CMS is pretty neat.
Worse: liberty mutual has a black box that uses your phone. Then you give up your driving/location data, your mobile data, your phone battery, and your OBD-2 port.
I'm guessing that some of the included BSD tools on my Mac are pretty old, because they're so simple. https://gist.github.com/pete/665971
Re:Nasa clears SpaceX test flight to space station on Tuesday February 26, 2019 @08:13AM (#19253960)
They're also launching a suit in the capsule. I can't wait to see another Starman, especially one that flies a real spaceship.
Re:Mars One Is Bankrupt on Monday February 11, 2019 @12:38PM (#19136281)
Total scam. They wanted to start a reality show to fund R&D for a Mars base. There aren't any technical details on the "Mars Transit Vehicle", which looks like a KSP rocket with a Dragon stuck on the end.

Poking through their investor relations, they don't really have anything besides the website and some renderings. Wikipedia says that their proposal to launch modified Dragons was rejected by SpaceX. You would think an organization that plans on sending humans to Mars has a headquarters filled with very smart people, but it's just an empty rented office.[1]

Actually, you can talk to satellites[1] using a technician license, because they use VHF/UHF. A general or extra is required for using certain HF bands.

Re:Ask HN: Best way to offset personal carbon emissions on Wednesday January 16, 2019 @12:33PM (#18922850)
Most modern airliners are significantly more efficient than driving a car.[1] It seems like reducing overall distance traveled is more effective than trying to reduce carbon emissions on a specific flight.

It may not be an option in your area, but you could switch to a green energy company. The actual lines going to the house/apartment don't change because the grid is shared.

IMO, the Spark should come with them- DJI encourages users to launch and land directly on their hand.
