I still don't understand why people are using GitHub for their vibecoded projects. Just install git locally on your own NAS and control it there. What a weird fetish to publish online.

it's 2026. surely you're aware of ci/cd? static page hosting? package hosting? the many other services that github offers beyond hosted git?

I am using my own Git system with encrypted cloud sync and host over 30 web apps with this system. Many static websites, too. Never needed to use git in my life, except for a few cringy company projects that I was forced to be involved in.

There are a lot of legitimate reasons to have a public github/gitlab/whatever account that is not self hosted.

For all the same reasons they used it pre-LLM for hand-written toy projects.
