Yubico's explanation of the name "YubiKey" is that it derives from the phrase "your ubiquitous key", and that "yubi" is the Japanese word for finger.

The Yubikey is greatly held back from wider adoption because of its stupid name.

Here are some successful companies with odd-sounding names: Google, GoDaddy, Survey Monkey, Nvidia, Caterpillar, Coca-Cola
