He had maybe more potential to do good and enable goodness than anyone else in human history. What does he do with it? He tries to crawl in bed with the same vampires that trapped us in the hellscape that we need AI to crawl OUT of. The oil goons that have turned the resources of the earth into pollution and vaults full of treasure, turned nation against nation as a daily act of business, who shed tears for nothing other than lost profit.

All just so he gets to be richer than some other asshole.

Could there be a greater foreshadowing about what individual humans will do when they get their own copy of incredible power downloaded to their iphone?

Hey I found this magic lamp... instead of solving the world's misery, maybe I can sell it to Jafar!

They're probably not trying to convey that.

But, to take a stab at that, yes, I personally think there can be some very specific viewpoints that, if compared to how things are today, some aspects of life were quantifiably better than they are today.

If we're holistic about it? Then all the human, technological and societal progress probably overshadows those teeny-tiny aspects of human life that were better before oil. It all depends on your own viewpoint and what you personally think is valuable in life.
