I'm not sure what the article is supposed to convey. If you pick an arbitrary start date, TSLA can dominate NVDA. Or vice versa.

I bought some Nvidia stock around 2009 when it was around $30 after discovering GPGPU and CUDA thinking that technology would be huge for them. I sold it a couple years later at a loss as it looked like it was not going to take off. That is the same technology that today underlies their success in crypto and AI. That is to say picking a random start year to compare individual returns is kind of silly in my opinion. The real lesson is to buy quality companies that are doing new and interesting things and then don’t look at them for ten years.

I will say the one difference between Tesla and Nvidia is that Tesla drives their own demand. They aren’t waiting for someone to come up with a good use for cars they are making something with an already established market better. Nvidia made something that took a long time to find its killer use case at a scale that mattered for the company’s bottom line.

No mention of AMD? Their stock grew 40 fold since 2015.

That was my thought as well. It's a weird article, there's no shortage of stocks and 5-year time frames you can pick to dominate whatever you wish.

There are not that many of those public stocks, but NVDA, TSLA, AMD and Bitcoin are among the clear winners of the past 10 years. Also none of them seem to be at their peek yet, as all these are in growing markets.

Yes, the only non-tech stock, but as I'm not an American I wouldn't able to value it and I don't see how it could 10x again, so it's just not that interesting for me.

Just make sure when you're looking back in time you choose the ones that did well.

How robust is this to changing the start year by a year or two in either direction? Just trying to understand why the choice of 2015 as the base year.

Machine learning taking off was very good for NVIDIA... and it shows in their revenue today.
