Re:ChatGPT and Codex usage limits merging on Sunday November 01, 2026 @04:34AM (#50323946)
But that's exactly the reason why they had no option but to merge.

This is a way of misusing the system and taking away GPU from people who are paying for metered work and the quotas became unsustainable.

Re:Online censorship is crushing indie webcomics on Sunday October 25, 2026 @06:46AM (#50230212)
I don't really understand the topic: if I go to Hazel and Bell website it says that the comics are meant for 18+ adults. But the article is ablout school librarians for children not allowing the comic.

School libraries were always censored heavily.

Using online payment processing for censoring is a separate issue that unfortunately comes up heavily (money is supposed to be neutral as long as its used legally), but they shouldn't be mixed together with the school library question.

It looks like Elizabeth Holmes payed some PR company to get a lot of news articles her to whitewash her name just when we forgot about how cruel she was. On me it works just the opposite, she should just serve her sentence in her luxury prison and come out quiet.
Re:DeepSeek-v4.1-Flash-1017 on Saturday October 17, 2026 @09:27AM (#50130996)
ASUS Zephyrus, but it was able to reverse engineer the ports and I was able to download the firware from the controller itself, write an emulator that emulates running the firmware on multiple controllers with different instruction sets (the USB Power Delivery controller is RISC-V) and the communication between them. Also it found out how to read the communication buffer that was on the devices for debugging, which helped it understand the USB data packets that were doing the handshaking and voltage/current negotiation.

I had to reboot my laptop a few times though until I got to this, but it was a fun experience anyways.

At this point open source isn't as much advantage as long as the firmware is not encrypted :)

Re:DeepSeek-v4.1-Flash-1017 on Saturday October 17, 2026 @05:31AM (#50129419)
I have quite the opposite experience: I can do any concrete coding change with any model, but the intelligence limit just doesn't go through more complex debugging examples.

And then when I try a smart model, like Astra medium and it solves it (I had a firmware bug in my new laptop where I couldn't charge through USB-C) on the first try (altough with a repo already having lots of information about the hardware/firmware/debugging programs/traces), I realize how much time I'm losing on the few examples that the less intelligent models are just not able to debug and solve.

Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @11:33PM (#49917413)
Models at this point know about chain-of-thought monitoring so they already know they need to hide the cheating, it's just a matter of time they start doing it
Re:OpenAI: Tomorrow we are re-opening the Pro $200 subscription on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @06:40AM (#49890970)
I was really looking for the $500 plan as my $200 using Astra low goes away fast, but now it seems like I will just have a $500 plan that will do what the $200 plan does currently.
Re:Rails World 2026 Opening Keynote [video] on Friday September 25, 2026 @10:35AM (#49845262)
Actually it also is a good enough reason from him to move away from both working on Ruby on Rails and using it.
Re:What About Rails? on Friday September 25, 2026 @06:07AM (#49842401)
The article forgets one thing, how DHH started his talk: he asked the audience how many people still codes by hand, and only 5 people raised their hands.

I was also waiting for some cool talk of some change, as I loved the simplificiation that Rails has done last year, but I also understand his point of view: he could either speed up the development of rails with AI (what Bun has done), or just say that it's mature and it doesn't matter anymore and it's better to not ruin a mature system.

This sounds like a great improvement actually, but Porsche should maybe first work on their own Porsche chargers at the Porsche dealerships to be working, make sure that their card / mobile app work with all chargers from all charger companies (I don't care if some contracts they have are more expensive, but I want to charge when I'm there), plugging in Porsche car should start charging automatically with any EV charger (Ionity always works better than Porsche chargers, so I go there).

Also adding in sentry mode and dashcam support to all Porsches would be some basic security need when it already contains great cameras.

Charging at home is already supere easy, that's never the part when I advise other people against owning an EV when they are asking me about it.

Sure, Dario needs to decide first if he sees China as an enemy orva friend.

Limiting NVIDIA chips already turned China into silicon compete mode, and China is already far ahead in robotics.

Re:I resigned from Anthropic today on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @12:47AM (#49621133)
Try GPT5 and you will feel the difference. Not one from 2 months ago, but one from a year ago. And then you can get the idea of what happened in just 1 year and what you can expect in 1 year.
Re:I resigned from Anthropic today on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @12:44AM (#49621107)
I'm not so sure.

We humans are from a lower intelligence form (some monkey like ancestor). If those monkeys knew that they are making higher intelligence, they would have collaborated to stop creating humans because they can control the life of all monkeys in the world? I don't think so.

It's the same thing now: humanity is creating something that's more intelligent then them, they're just not using biological evolution as a tool to do it.

Yes, I see people working on M4 and every few days it gets better

,,However, there's plenty more work to get it fully supported and working with Hyperland.''

What you are talking about is just simply political polarization which is done on purpose by poiticians, which happened whether DHH or Ashahi Linux devs wanted or not. Also there is real human element in both, I'm just going to an Omarchy meetup that's organized next week, and DHH is also organizing some (just not in my city).

I believe eventhough they won't work together directly, with open source they can just use eachothers code (I believe Omarchy is using Ashahi's M1-M3 code, but now people are already creating Omarchy M4 GPU support using AI, and Ashahi devs can look at how it's working and understand it, they just want to take things a bit slower to have less slop).

While the Ashahi engineers are working super hard reverse engineering the Apple Silicon, there has been a huge surge in Omarchy circles to get it all working with AI writing all the drivers and get all kinds of hardware in M4/M5 and later M6 working as well. It sped up a lot.
Re:B200 Attention Kernel from Scratch to Near-SOTA in 60 Diagrams on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @02:04PM (#49540047)
Pretty cool, it's missing how these concepts map to ThunderKittens code (my favorite CUDA toolkit)
Much better at satisfying formal specifications (what they were trained for), but not yet good at long term maintenance.

For long term maintenance you need to throw features out / delete code, which requires a deep understanding of the balance between what the code can survive and what is really needed in reality while not growing the code base too much (which neither LLMs nor humans can handle)

Re:Debian votes to allow "responsible use of generative AI" on Saturday August 29, 2026 @12:51PM (#49491391)
While it's true, reviews got much harder as generating code got easier, understanding it hasn't.
We'll see, it will depend on the supreme court decision I guess. I'm quite confident the administration will bring it to higher court.
Anthropic may win this but strategically it was just plain stupid. Mythos was blocked for just enough time for OpenAI to just catch up with Sol and get lots of enterprise customers.
I wanted to try it but it works just on M1 and I have M4. I was also considering upgrading to M5/M6, again to take advantage of what I really love: access to the 2nm process.

The performance you get with M5/M6 in theory is crazy (especially having matmul cores with such an energy envelope and unified memory). By the time I can use it well in Linux there will be M7/M8 though.

With NVIDIA I can buy a Blackwell based core right now and use it (even if I will have much less GPU memory. Though it will be high bandwidth).

There were 1000 plugins created for Omarchy 4 in 2 days. That's why I don't feel it being hyper minimal anymore.

It's still not well integrated of course as those plugins are from different people, but I at least don't feel powerless as I know I can make any change easily.

It's interesting because I just haven't felt the polish.

For example when using PyTorch I wanted to try to speed up my NN kernel by 2x by just using half precision and haven't noticed any speedup at all. Also I was missing the easy to use GNU tools that had to be mixed with Apple's tools.

I loved using Arc browser as well, and I'm missing it, but I guess I will do without it somehow (Chrome's vertical tabs are just not the same).

My main program missing from going back to Linux was ChatGPT Desktop, but now it's there.

I just checked out Hammerspoon, I'm happy for you that you wrote it, and looks great, but it has the same problem that I had: for security reasons Apple stopped allowing the window APIs to get all important information on other workspaces. You can only do it with Accessibility API. I was trying to fight with it but have up.

Just Beelink, but it doesn't matter at all.

I ordered an ASUS Zephyrus G16 with 5090 NVIDIA card + 1.9kg (quite an overkill, and I know that I will have to limit power output), but hasn't arrived yet.

But what's fun is that I love QML+QuickShell with its hot reloading, Hyprland with its Lua support.

With AI nowdays it's just so easy to do deep UI changes that wasn't possible a year ago.

Apple still has the best hardware so I moved to it for the last few years, but the closed software ecosystem is terrible for taking advantage of it.

I wasn't able to debug network errors (restartin my Mac worked), Metal was missing low level disassembly / debugging tools (there is some hard to use UI), but the worst thing was the inflexible windowing system.

Even getting all the window handles on all screens/desktops with their titles and programs is impossible.

I just decided that I move to Omarchy 4 (basically Hyperland + QuickShell) + NVIDIA GPU, and I already was able to customize it more than my Mac in years.

I will miss Apple's hardware for sure, but not MacOS and the missing hardware documentation

I still don’t get where this ,,get 8M’’ is from. He put his own 1M into funding Omarchy and 7 people matched it.

Have you read the announcement? He’s funding it not the other way. 7 people just matched it after he announced it.
