I'm amused by the model they have in their banner: a bearded, tattooed man wearing what appears to be a .. cape? We've come a long way since the stock photos of 'smiling super-normal people wearing ties, huddled around a computer'.

Reminds me of Snow Crash.

> Because shortly after he gets into Port Sherman, the wheels on his motorcycle lock up - the spokes become rigid - and the ride gets very bumpy. A couple of seconds after that, the entire bike goes dead, becomes an inert chunk of metal. Not even the engine works. He looks down into the flat screen on top of the fuel tank, wanting to get a status report, but it's just showing snow. The bios has crashed. Asherah's possessed his bike.

I'm pretty sure Amazon is just trolling us with these photos.

He must be doing a firmware update to his ECU :-)

Not to mention the man is wearing on-ear headphones and is using a smartphone in front of his laptop, which seems more common today than ever.

Do on-ear headphones carry a negative connotation? I wear them because earbuds make my ears hurt after a while.
Re:Amazon LightSail: Simple Virtual Private Servers on AWS by infinitone on Wednesday November 30, 2016 @12:43PM (#13072806)
Its all about the over-ear mate.. over-ear..
Re:Amazon LightSail: Simple Virtual Private Servers on AWS by RUG3Y on Wednesday November 30, 2016 @12:45PM (#13072822)
Haha ok...I guess technically I'm wearing "over-ear" headphones right now. Hyper-X...pretty cheap gaming headset, extremely comfortable, no flashing led lights or other weird gamer features. Decent sound too.

This is a silly question, but do they go fully around the ear?

I have bigger ears and a get a lot of discomfort from most headphones. I have a pair of Audio Technica ATH-A900X (with huge cans) at home, but I'm always hunting for a cheaper pair to carry around with me.

Re:Amazon LightSail: Simple Virtual Private Servers on AWS by RUG3Y on Wednesday November 30, 2016 @02:07PM (#13073637)
Yes, they fit around my ears nicely. I've always been uncomfortable with the padding touching my ears the way you describe. I'm pretty picky, but I've found the HyperX headset to be way more comfortable than some other, very expensive headsets that I've tried. I've had them for almost two years now and they've been very durable as well.

Have you tried the Logitech G930? $70, wireless USB with great microphone and great range.

My ears are huge, they fit very well within these earpads. By comparison I use the Beyerdynamic DT770 as my music headphones (vs travel) as those are the only ones I've tried so far that fit my ears and are super comfortable.

+1 My HyperX Cloud 2's are the only over-ear headset I'll ever use again. Fantastic sound, build quality and comfort.

Has he also duct taped over the brand name? 2016 San Francisco, I see you!
Re:Amazon LightSail: Simple Virtual Private Servers on AWS by steffan on Wednesday November 30, 2016 @12:54PM (#13072923)
The duct tape is made to look decorative, but it's standard practice in Film / TV / Advertising to obscure brand names.
Re:Amazon LightSail: Simple Virtual Private Servers on AWS by xyzzyz on Wednesday November 30, 2016 @03:31PM (#13074422)
A good way to recognize a stock photo is to look for brand names or logos. If you see any, it's not a stock photo.

Is this Amazon's dress-code? I bet black cape + helmet means you're at the top.

You don't wear a cape?
Re:Amazon LightSail: Simple Virtual Private Servers on AWS by ajkjk on Wednesday November 30, 2016 @10:19PM (#13076946)
I put my cape away years ago. But duty may call again...
