Where did you even get a mention of moarvm for you to get confused about?

Sounds like you're making shit up just to be difficult. The giant button on perl6.org says "Rakudo is a compiler for Perl 6 code", it leads you to a page of choices, among which is a link to a binaries where you choose your platform.

It's like complaining that you have to use `gcc` when learning the C Programming Language and being flabbergasted to find there are multiple versions of it.

Seriously, this isn't rocket surgery.

This sort of incivility is not allowed here. Please comment civilly and substantively, or not at all.

We detached this subthread from https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12888924 and marked it off-topic.

And yet his being told to go fuck himself downthread was left uncommented upon.

You don't really think you're facing anti-perl-6 moderation bias, do you? I assure you I'm just bereft of my laptop and stuck in an airplane with a very small phone.

Edit: ok, I've now found that comment (which you're right was worse) and banned the offending account.

Lolno. Just pointing out that that post is likely what got him riled up and thereby resulting in his mistake. I've moderated lots of stuff for years, my baseline expectation is always "moderator mistake" rather than "bias". Just the mote/beam level of this particular case seemed sufficient to be worth commenting on.

Then once I'd posted that, I downvoted zoffix myself for being unconstructive and went and tracked him down on IRC (we've known each other for years) and pointed out that even if you're right, accusing somebody of being intentionally obstructive is pretty much never constructive.

Your objection would bear more credibility if you also raised equal objection to even stronger language used in anti-Perl posts on this thread.

We try our best to be even-handed, of course. But it's impossible to see all the comments, so there's inevitably some irregularity.

Any time people notice comments breaking HN's rules that we haven't replied to, they're welcome to email us at [email protected].

To answer your question the moarvm is mentioned in all the release announcements and in the compilation instructions and in most of the blogs.perl.org posts that I read. For example:

"This is the third post-Christmas (production) release of Rakudo Star and implements Perl v6.c. It comes with support for the MoarVM backend..."

"Deconfusion note: if you're just a regular Perl 6 user, you likely use and only ever heard of Rakudo Star, which is a distribution that includes the Rakudo Perl 6 Compiler, some modules, and the docs. This post details a release of that compiler only, which gets released more often than Rakudo Star. So please don't think there's a new release, if Star is all you use."
