High-speed trading on a "market" that allows ~10 transactions/second max?

Regulate a free service?

I wonder if any G Suite customers had their accounts closed.

Is the electricity generation clean? Unlikely in SEA.

Papier looks interesting.

I've been using a blank new-tab:

Auto Copy: Automatically copy selected text to the clipboard. Has options for copying as plain text; including the URL in the copied text; etc.

Tab Snooze: Close unnecessary tabs and make them magically reappear when you need them.

While it's less offensive than Google Glasses, this doesn't look like "normal" glasses.

Sometimes I think these guys know something obscure, and then post a question about it just to answer it themselves.

SO actually allows this, Q and A from the same account. Some people use sock-puppets though.

I don't think this is true, or at least not always true.

A good example is the armed forces, where recruits are forced into a very regimented routine.

My father was in the marines, and by his description they turned him from someone who lacked discipline and was not fit into the exact opposite.

When he retired, he kept up his routines: rising early, keeping fit. He's tried to instill the same discipline in his daughters - it's not as effective when it's not mandatory however.

Re:The Fastest FizzBuzz in the West on Tuesday August 30, 2016 @10:38PM (#12395602)
Dustin seems to take offence at the idea that FizzBuzz would be used in a technical interview to screen job candidates.

Jeff Atwood on the other hand thinks it's a great way to filter out "developers" who can't program their way out of a wet paper bag:

I think our obsession with short/cool handles is strange, and even stranger is people building their "empire" on something that can be taken from you so arbitrarily.

It's the same as people expecting to get free-speech on Twitter/FB/Tumblr.

Even domains, which can't be taken from you on a whim, can be made far less "valuable" with the introduction on new TLDs.

The best contributions you can make on GitHub are legitimate ones: start using various libraries etc. and when you find bugs or missing documentation, open an issue or try and provide a PR.
Re:Ask HN: Are open vacation policies a scam? on Monday August 22, 2016 @08:13AM (#12335709)
While 28 days is at the high end, almost all developed countries (UK, AU, FR, etc.) require employers to provide 4+ weeks per year paid holiday leave.

Bigger companies will even force you to take it once you've accrued a number of hours, as it can be a liability on the books (as unused holidays roll over indefinitely).

The US is an outlier in this regard.

Things like three months of advertisement-free Outlook, and Amazon/Starbucks gift cards.
So the line is most accurate towards the end of a lap, and probably quite inaccurate at the start (given how much speed you gain during a coming out of a turn).
> based on linear time difference

No point being animated then, as it's unlikely to be accurate.

I always wonder how accurate the WR line is for swimming events... is it linear, base on splits, or more granular?

What about in the web/startup world? Although not a real meritocracy, proving you can program/hack/design gets you a lot further than a piece of paper with a stamp in it.
Re:Ask HN: How have you left Google's services? on Tuesday August 16, 2016 @08:58PM (#12301783)
Prefixing with !sp will redirect your query to Startpage, which is essentially an anonymous proxy for Google.

So Google will still get to log and analyse your search terms, but they will be aggregated with all other users of Startpage - lots of noise.
