Yeah one of the Nordic nRF chips would be nice. But I guess the advantage of ESP is the hobby developer community. It's not going to be as good on battery power but the barrier to entry for people wanting to tinker is really low.
Re:South Korea Mandates Solar Panels for Public Parking Lots on Saturday March 28, 2026 @09:29PM (#47559658)
Currently in Korea where the AQI is close to 200. Can confirm.

Granted most of that is probably coal power plants and stuff but... All the more reason for more solar.

I would second this. For SBCs the software support is the biggest deal breaker for me these days. Being cheaper or more powerful isn't as much of a benefit without the software ecosystem and community to back it up.

And then the construction quality/tolerance too. I've had Pis last for years and then cheap alternatives burn out after a few months of moderate use.

Re:Iranian regime tries to shut down Starlink on Monday January 12, 2026 @01:02AM (#46584646)
You're the one certain about military intervention. I just want them to keep pressuring a regime that's killing it's own people.
Re:Iranian regime tries to shut down Starlink on Sunday January 11, 2026 @11:24PM (#46584091)
You don't have to support military intervention to pay attention. People supported Palestine without wanting to bomb Israel.

Also... Are the executed protesters not also death and suffering? What about victims and conflicts resulting from the groups Iran funds?

I'm pretty sure this will mainly get used to write counselings and award speeches. Maybe to query regulations. It can only handle CUI.
Re:My six stages of learning to be a socially normal person on Monday November 17, 2025 @10:30PM (#45961094)
I don't know if this is a toxic thing to say or not... But I enjoy my tech friends and I value our discussions. But I most value my science nerd friends outside of tech. Like.. I kinda don't want my friends to be peers. Not because of competition or anything like that. But I want them to nerd out to me about things I'm not steeped in. And I want to get to nerd out to them about computer science and the boundaries of philosophy and math and logic. But having a friend group is central.
Re:My six stages of learning to be a socially normal person on Monday November 17, 2025 @10:17PM (#45961017)
I agree. I don't know which segment you fall into... But for applications and interviews I would recommend to radiate... Find your best work. Open source or otherwise. And sell yourself.

That doesn't mesh with normal human behavior. It feels weird. But the corporate world and the private social worlds are disconnected. For me at least. So it's weird. Actually ... That's a weird concept.

I guess I recommend having two minds... One with friends and one with the corporate world. And they don't play by the same rules.

Re:My six stages of learning to be a socially normal person on Monday November 17, 2025 @10:01PM (#45960937)
I don't know how to filters those people. But I'd say in general if people have positive things to show... It doesn't mean they don't have negatives. They can be hiding all kinds of negatives... That's hard to test. But if you have several good examples you probably have some experience. I assume you pick the best. Maybe that's problematic. Maybe some hyper-honest people try to pick a mixture that better represents their skills. But I don't know how you balance for that. I want them to represent themselves and sell themselves.

But job applications aren't the same as normal life so this is probably a tangent. In normal life, though, I kinda assume I'm seeing what people want me to see. But if it looks really good it probably means they have good sample of experiences to cherry pick from.

Re:My six stages of learning to be a socially normal person on Monday November 17, 2025 @09:44PM (#45960834)
But in the context of job interviews.. It applies. But also that applies in trading, if you have a bunch of experience winning or losing, that's useful experience and I want your input on my team. The fact that you cherry picked is built into the evaluation. You have experience. Whether or not you have some innate talent for it is aside. I care about your experience.
Re:My six stages of learning to be a socially normal person on Monday November 17, 2025 @09:37PM (#45960792)
If they have thousands of examples to cherry pick from... That's a signal of experience. So it's not entirely manipulation. If you can pick from your experience and find the best examples and you have several... You have experience.
Re:AI Is Different on Saturday August 16, 2025 @10:56AM (#44924022)
AI will probably pass that test. But art is about experience and communicating more subtle things that we humans experience. AI will not be out in society being a person and gaining experience to train on. So if we're not writing it somewhere for it to regurgitate... It will always feel lacking in the subtlety of a real human writer. It depends on us creating content with context in order to mimic someone that can create those stories.

EDIT: As in, it can make really good derivative works. But it will always lag behind a human that has been in real life situations of the time and experienced being a human throughout them. It won't be able to hit the subtle notes that we crave in art.

Re:So you want to parse a PDF? on Monday August 04, 2025 @01:46AM (#44782462)
Sometimes scanned documents are structured really weird, especially for tables. Visually, we can recognize the intention when it's rendered, and so can the AI, but you practically have to render it to recover the spatial context.
I don't think you understood me. I meant the drink gets cooler.
You mean putting cold ice cubes into a warmer drink doesn't cool it down?

But that was when our labor was needed to generate wealth and power for those people. The churches wanted of to work to provide tithes and offerings, the markets want us to work to buy and produce goods.

What happens when that labor isn't as valuable? It seems like someone in power would either want to pacify us or eliminate us.

> If nothing else, it can offset electricity costs a little.

If they can get them to be affordable to offset the electricity costs, but I'm skeptical of this happening for a really long time.

Feels very similar to last time about a week ago. Profile pages aren't loading but the timeline is. TweetDeck still works so it doesn't seem like a backend api issue or anything severe.
It seems weird to me that Twitter would have disabled tweets from verified accounts instead of disabling tweets from the API though.

They've experimented with other forms of revenue. Things like Pocket and VPN [1]. I assume that if Google pulled the plug they could find another sponsor but Google may not want to do that anyway, otherwise they run the risk of being an obvious monopoly.

Re:Firefox 78 on Tuesday June 30, 2020 @11:21AM (#23690950)
I used Firefox back when it was competing with IE and then switched to Chrome for a while because of the performance difference.

But I switched back to Firefox about 3-4 years ago because of the growing Chromium monoculture (which is even greater now that Edge is using Chromium) and because the performance difference isn't really there anymore.

Mozilla has done some great work keeping up with the giants. Lockwise is great. The "Send Tab to Device" feature is great. And they're working on offline voice recognition using DeepSpeech in future releases (Chrome sends all audio to Google for recognition).

How do people get digitalattack map to show today? I can only see yesterday on there and some people are posting images that say the 15th.

Either way, it's being taken out of context. There are always DDoS attacks like that. The past couple of months has had constant traffic on their timeline.

People are fearmongering and sharing pictures of DDoS activity out of context. There are always attacks like that going on in the background, it doesn't mean that's the cause.

Re:Open Source ESP32 Retro Emulation System on Monday November 25, 2019 @10:24PM (#21635423)
Yeah, the firmware seems based off of Odroid Go (even the bootloader) with a few changes in implementation. The build process is documented a bit better and the codebase is a bit simpler. The hardware is similar and also open source: https://github.com/pebri86/esplay_micro_hardware
