News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

But Godot Engine "can do consoles" for a few years now. W4 Games isn't the first to provide a solution for this, nor will they be the last, due to Godot's MIT licensing.
Problem: nothing is really confirmed, no source has been provided. People just assume it is, because of the poster's status in the Godot Engine community.

There was a rumor going around based on a single screenshot from a 3D artist which in the mean time vanished.

We all can still make educated guesses as to what was Godot Engine's role in this project and to what extent it was actually used.

Would it be possible to work remotely from Europe?

Quality/higher-end cassette players for playing generally lo-fi music? Something's wrong here.

I mean, in the article one guy says that he managed to compress and put 3 songs onto 1 floppy and was satisfied with the listenable end result.

Thanks for this list. Am in the process of looking for contract work.

One interesting thing is that most sites target freelancers as single people. What if I have a team of coders/designers (ie. a small software house) looking for clients? That's my current problem. Maybe will start a new thread about this.

You can find a B&W laser printer/color scanner combo with duplex & wireless in the Brother 2500 series. Model 2560 IIRC.

I wasn't familiar with it. Thanks for the link!
Re:Ask HN: Getting payed internationally as a freelancer on Wednesday October 12, 2016 @06:38AM (#12691734)
That really depends on the bank's offer, amount to be converted, etc.

A general question to a very specific case :)

"Somehow the Americans don't like wire transfer in Euros"

I'm really not surprised. It's the same with EU countries having to wire money to some non-euro currency.

Why not setup a US dollar account? After receiving payment in your client's currency, you can rather cheaply convert it to your own currency.

In my experience, US companies are interested in PayPal or TransferWise or other such methods only when for some reason wire transfer is not an option. I don't think you are in such a situation. Depending on the amount, using those services could be more expensive than handling a US dollar wire transfer with SHA (shared costs).

Currently I get a 502 HTTP error when I try to enter the website, so it's supposedly broken.

Hi! We're a small, but growing software house with a team of experienced developers, looking for new contract work.

Don't be shy! Give us a shout for an estimate on your interesting software project. You just might be surprised on how competitive our rates can be.

I think it's because those are the freshest stable versions the author could use? uClibc 0.9.33.2 by itself was released in 2012. I guess he had a reason for using the BuildRoot 2015.2 version.

A team of experienced full-stack developers (mobile, web, desktop, games) is looking for remote work.

From the text: "uClibc 0.9.33.2 (Buildroot 2015.02)"

In all fairness, this can't be from mid-2014 if they used a library build from 2015.

Re:When Edison, Ford and Friends Went Road-Tripping in Model Ts on Thursday January 28, 2016 @09:46AM (#10988408)
If any hacker wants to read up on the topic, I recommend the book "Uncommon Friends: Life with Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, Alexis Carrel, and Charles Lindbergh" by James Newton.

Highly inspiring. I read it a few years ago, right after reading a biography on Edison.

It really seems unlikely that the situation will change in your current workplace. Best to start searching for something more fitting to your wishes. Good luck!

Re:Ask HN: Where do you find software engineering jobs? on Tuesday January 05, 2016 @07:15AM (#10842833)
I managed to find jobs in my field just by sitting on IRC channels, like those specific to a platform or technology that I'm good at/currently using/can help others with.

I guess it's similar to having a good rep on SO and getting recruitment offers through there.

Setup a bit torrent client and help host ISOs for a multitude of open source projects (not only linux distros).
