Re:Setting out plans to monitor all Internet use in the UK on Thursday June 14, 2012 @10:28AM (#4111467)
"...The police and security services are concerned that criminals and terrorists are increasingly evading detection by using social media and online gaming sites to communicate with each other..."

of course they do - because the terrorists and the criminals have the brains and the survival instinct of a peanutbutter sandwich!

Re:Good Developer, Bad Developer on Monday June 11, 2012 @05:06PM (#4097003)
these "good" and "bad" things are two nice little categories - they make thinking so much easier. i think this is the reason why i don't like this hegel guy.
Re:What do you think of my most recent personal project? on Sunday June 10, 2012 @09:42AM (#4091017)

Re:US Navy buys Linux to guide drone fleet on Sunday June 10, 2012 @08:26AM (#4090861)
well, i sleept on that and came to the point that this problem is similar to the knife-problem: you can use a knife to butter your bread or to cut someone into little pieces - but that's not the knife's fault or the fault of the guy who made the knife or the guy who invented the concept of the knife.

therefore rms and you other smart bastards;) were right - i was wrong.

Re:US Navy buys Linux to guide drone fleet on Saturday June 09, 2012 @08:50PM (#4089810)
i know this all-or-nothing-argument and yes it is correct. it's about purity of the idea of free software, but killing humans is not pure. so how can the idea stay pure therefore?

and what do i tell my grandchildren if the ask me one day: "grandpa, why exactly did you write that big while-switch-statement which killed 6.000.000 people in 2016?"

Re:US Navy buys Linux to guide drone fleet on Saturday June 09, 2012 @08:22PM (#4089750)
asked rms few months ago if it wouldn't make sense to change the gpl in the direction of "no military use allowed". he replied that would destroy the "free software philosophy". i disagree. hate the idea that human beings are killed with the help of gnu/linux and/or free software.
Re:I am David Copperfield. Ask Me Anything on Saturday June 09, 2012 @08:55AM (#4087982)
hi david, you've been vanished for years! great trick. how did you do that?
Re:Raytheon Delivering Linux To Navy UAV Ground Stations on Friday June 08, 2012 @08:38AM (#4083866)
so the navy uses gnu/linux to kill people or spy on them? if so, then this is one of the most horrible days in my life.
what has this militarist nonsense to do with hn?
Re:Power searching using grep on Friday June 08, 2012 @05:09AM (#4083387)

Re:Samsung invests $500K in Linux Foundation to battle iOS on Wednesday June 06, 2012 @04:38AM (#4072887)
500K is embarrassing. probably the samsung corporation is spending more money per year on toilet paper.
Re:Why I stopped working on the Bongard Problems on Tuesday June 05, 2012 @07:37AM (#4068224)
great article! loved it. in the 80's i coined me the sentence "never write software for cruise missiles!". that was harder than i imagined then. today it's the same with AI, ML and even data mining. ethically very though stuff for responsible software developers. anyway, thnx for the article.
