This is one of my favorite websites on the internet right now. I've been building ios apps for 10 years now and this is one of the best sources of inspiration.

that's by design! The mobile experience is just meant for browsing since there's no need to copy the code while you're on mobile.
oh yes definitely need to include licenses!!
fixed it!!
I'm building a component library where Swift UI Devs can discover UI components to use in their projects. They can also share their own with the community easily.

Wow! just signed up... is this going to help me revive my susbtack newsletter again?

on a more serious note, I think you guys are onto something. AI as a companion for creative work is going to be huge.

Hey HN! I've been working on this app for a while now. I launched on my personal twitter a month ago and it went viral among the tech & VC crowd haha. http://tldl.app/app

The app Too Long; Didn't Listen - is a podcast bookmarking app where you can make bookmarks of any show that's available openly via rss feeds. And you can discover new shows via bookmarks that other people have made.

Podcasts are openly available on RSS feeds, which is great but sadly there hasn't been any fundamental changes to the listening experience and all the podcast apps pretty much look and work the same. So here's my attempt at creating something completely different in the space.

Main features include:

- You can make bookmarks with a tap of a button.

- You can follow your friends and other top bookmarkers, it's social.

- The feed is inspired by tiktok. There are "following" & "featured" categories where you can see some of the best bookmarks and also see bookmarks from the people you're following.

- there's also a "subscribed" feed where you can see latest episodes from the podcast shows you're following + a grid view similar to pocket casts to see your subscribed shows.

- Another important feature is you can find new bookmarks via famous people. Ex: you can find all the episodes elon musk was in.

- You can make bookmarks from your existing podcast apps via the share extension

- you can also create your own categories

- oh it also has a very unique app icon ;)

wow this is incredibly insightful. Security Research could be a really good/niche starting point too.
Re:Building a Search Engine for Programmers on Saturday June 13, 2020 @07:03PM (#23513600)
oh wow this is amazing, will play around with it!
Re:Building a Search Engine for Programmers on Saturday June 13, 2020 @06:59PM (#23513575)
will do! what's your twitter?
Re:Building a Search Engine for Programmers on Saturday June 13, 2020 @06:59PM (#23513573)
exception messages are a pretty solid starting point, totally agree.

searching the most relevant versions are painful! I spend a lot of time in Swift where Xcode automatically suggests the newer version/syntax but wish VS code & others did this too.

I feel this! I use GitHub stars more than I admit to, especially when it comes to unique libraries that I'll never find via google.
Re:Building a Search Engine for Programmers on Saturday June 13, 2020 @06:44PM (#23513477)
wow! never considered books as a source of information for this. This could be super useful, something that google doesn't currently do.
Re:Building a Search Engine for Programmers on Saturday June 13, 2020 @06:42PM (#23513463)
interesting! something like JSFiddle but more integrated to your project?
Re:Building a Search Engine for Programmers on Saturday June 13, 2020 @06:39PM (#23513447)
yep my solution was more signin with GitHub and choose your current project but VS code extension is a no-brainer!
Re:Building a Search Engine for Programmers on Saturday June 13, 2020 @06:29PM (#23513371)
yeah! the search engine should know what project you're working on. Seems like such a pretty basic thing that hasn't been built yet haha.
Re:Building a Search Engine for Programmers on Saturday June 13, 2020 @06:28PM (#23513362)
wow totally! Xcode kind of does this but this would save so much time if it worked properly!
Re:Building a Search Engine for Programmers on Saturday June 13, 2020 @04:07PM (#23512275)
oh yeah absolutely. Sorting via language or framework version would be helpful too!
Re:Building a Search Engine for Programmers on Saturday June 13, 2020 @03:40PM (#23512084)
I think programmers spend a lot of time searching for solutions online and making that process more intuitive will be a huge win for everybody haha.

Building a Search Engine for Programmers

Hey HN, I've recently started working on a side-project. It's basically a vertical search engine for programmers. You'll be able to quickly search through documentation, GitHub repos and stack overflow. It'll know what language you're using and what project you're working on and tailor results accordingly. What other features would you want to see in this tool?

Built an app a few months ago to capture my stream of conciousness. The UI is like a messaging app where you can just send yourself messages and quickly organize them under tags.

I wonder if this could turn into something like parabola.io but focused on consumers.

Oh wow, didn't know that, thanks for letting me know!
In a world where marketing channels like SEM, FB ads, etc. are getting more and more saturated, side projects can be an interesting way to build a direct connection with your users.
