I'm wondering if mortal developer can create something like itunes for movies but as cheap as possible. If there was some not so expensive digital movies it would benefit everyone (except itunes and gplay). The idea is to make place with powerful admin control for studios and charge 10% from selling media item. And for attracting traffic 5% throw to affiliate program. So basically creator will...

Re:China, Number One Economic Power for Half Decade, Dashes On on Wednesday January 15, 2020 @05:30AM (#22053134)
It isn't china fault. Western countries contribute to china economy and they should blame themselves for creating such begemoth. But I guess short profit from bigger sale margin will continue to force west to produce in china.
Re:My blog can now be browsed with cURL on Tuesday January 14, 2020 @11:38AM (#22046449)
It's a shame when dev sees html as challenge.

Re:The modern web is becoming unusable on Saturday December 21, 2019 @03:44AM (#21850374)
I think he mean that for small business facebook is stadart nowadays.

A lot of small shop owners in east europe have only facebook page with location and hours and some updates.

And I can't blame them but there's fact that every platform becomes shit after gaining popularity or goes down if not. And people without technical skills are feeding facebook with this situation.

Would be nice for domain sellers to give free single page generator with basic info and free hosting for this html page attached to domain.

Re:The modern web is becoming unusable on Saturday December 21, 2019 @03:30AM (#21850334)
It's true. So why you use some third party for your blog?

Imo nowadays every platform goes to shit so static site generator is a must for every blog owner that it technical guy.

Re:This Page is Designed to Last on Thursday December 19, 2019 @11:43PM (#21841768)
I don't get about Prefer one page over several.

Anyway some points seems reasonable but I bet most people will use wordpress and when they are not interested they will abandon it and it's gone.

Imo better force web archive to make more archives and donate it or smth.

Re:Your blog probably doesn’t need a static site generator on Wednesday December 18, 2019 @02:53PM (#21828658)
Try hugo. You need to waste 1 day to build and config it, but then you can make pretty amazing stuff fast
Re:What if personal computers were a mistake, actually? on Wednesday December 18, 2019 @02:38PM (#21828463)
This stuff is usefull when you have moar than 1 pc. In fact systems like that already exist and sone companies use them. But you need professional sys admin to call to setup all that stuff at least. Most people can't browse internet without bringing viruses.

Lots of people are fine with 1 pc and don't need more.

Need to make big accumulator. Problem solved. xD
Good that someone at last making it.
Most people don't care if they will be slaves or not.

Most people don't care about anything. So what? Let's burn this planet to ashes?

Democracy can work only with people that do care.

With that money you can chill and travel around the world for fun. And it will be your goal.
Re:Ask HN: What computer games should developers play? on Sunday December 01, 2019 @09:28AM (#21675608)
warcraft 3
It will only work if people are adequate. Nowadays most people are braindead.

And I don't even say about propaganda. Media can make people think black is white and white is black on any question.

I would restrict people who has access to votes, so only people that pass tests on history of his country and some minimum iq can vote.

Re:What is energy, actually? (2011) on Friday November 29, 2019 @07:42AM (#21663988)
I have 10 years old pc and bought new phone after 3 years. So 3000+3000/10+3000/3=4300

+products, so it will be 5-6k in total. Still not much.

Re:What is energy, actually? (2011) on Friday November 29, 2019 @07:12AM (#21663862)
I calculated that I use 3000kwh per year (only direct electricity+gas)

If everyone use such amounts there were no global warming. But humans always have not enough stuff...

Did you watch the good place? xD
