>He kinda left the part out.

It's irrelevant because the workers won't see a penny of any of it. You kinda left that part out.

>As software rots, multinationals may become the only players capable of making websites.

They are already the decision makers of who open source software is for.

The thing people fail most at realizing is that you can't have a lot of rich people with a lot of power without having a lot of poor people with no power. The interests of the former will always effectively undermine the latter.

Similarly, you can't have software that serves multinationals and regular people at the same time because the interests of the former will always effectively undermine the latter.

The final line is always between the ruling class and the working class.

>Most humans enjoy music and art. We want it to exist. It makes life better. We shouldn't be looking down on those who want to supply it.

Of course I agree with all your desires. I'm just saying how capitalism works in reality. You can pass moral judgements all you want, but capitalism doesn't care how many people want something. In capitalism, it's all about profit over time.

>the ongoing legacy of “I will do this no matter what” and being exploited

If you're willing to do it no matter what, you're begging to be exploited. That's the entire history of the labor movement in a sentence.

You mean like every other person that has ever lived?

That's a funny way of spelling Firefox

It's a digital abstraction of cash. Are you happy now?

Either way, that is some incredibly naive logic. The so-called open source software "community" desperately needs some lessons on how capitalism works.

The boss/employer relationship is inherently hostile. The whole idea is that bosses can threaten employment/wages as negotiation leverage.

Union-made email! Love to see it! :)

I already loved using Fastmail but this makes me the #1 fanboy.

For a stolen phone with AppleCare+ insurance that has been paid for every month since purchasing the phone, they should at least offer a way to file a claim.

The only way to submit a claim was to click on a button in my icloud account that did not exist. I live in a big city and visited 3 Apple stores and spent about 15 hours in them in total, but none of them were able to help me get the claim filed so I had to give up. One of the supervisors did refund the ~$15/mo that I had paid for the AppleCare+ insurance, but I had to buy a new phone.

I'm surprised so many people claim they haven't experienced it and I wonder how many have and just don't know.
Just say the number of jobs actually being created. Nobody in Michigan thinks any job is permanent no matter what you say.

Or just say "job-years". Anyone reading such an article will know what it means but there's no harm in defining it either.

There is obviously no excuse for just lying, and if it was unintentional then the responsible person should lose some job-years of their own.

Interesting. Do you know how they could fix it? I will send them this thread. They will love it.
And yet he did not use any of those opportunities to correct the most common perception of his work.

How is that supposed to be convincing?

Yeah, who knows? I am only brainstorming. Ever since I discovered the abysmal state of Apple's customer service after having my iphone stolen last year, I feel confident we will never know.
My gen-z cousins have promised me that isn't the case.
>Trying to correct mistaken or intentionally false claims in the media is a never-ending game of whack-a-mole.

Wrong. Merely trying is in-fact incredibly easy to do, but there is no record of Zimbardo taking a single step in that direction. You don't have a case.

In otherwords, it's outright lying unless they create the 4,000 jobs for 1 year, in which case it's still extreme dishonesty at best, given the importance of the 1 year term.

Capitalists and capitalist politicians should never be taken in good faith.

You should update your original comment. HN is full of desperate efforts to dodge any skepticism of sketchy and dishonest capitalist behavior. It doesn't need more of them.
Apple's iMessage implementation loses messages all the time. It happens about once every month between my girlfriend and I.

I have also had iMesages be sent to the wrong recipient. In one ongoing case, my aunt and uncle frequently receive each other's iMessages, suggesting it's related to their group carrier plan but it's hard to say. The extended family all knows to use SMS instead, which reliably goes to the intended recipient. They are both retired and always together so they haven't reached the point of getting a new plan.

Re:Coinbase targets financially vulnerable young adults on Thursday December 14, 2023 @12:03PM (#38643737)
Financially vulnerable young adults are a HUGE demographic. All companies should be targeting them, especially as an opportunity to "do good."
