Re:I taught my neighbor to keep the volume down on Monday February 02, 2026 @04:11AM (#46853949)

Took three afternoons, but he learned it.

I just want to add that designers are usually bullied by upper management into designing beautiful things that make upper managers look good with their friends. No matter how impractical those beautiful things are.

Edit: Oh, and the "beauty" is in the eye of the managers.

"I was there... 3000 years ago."
It could be. But nothing on my end changed from before the update.
Guys, the cause is the new OS. It wasn't happening 1hr before it started happening with the new OS, it never happened before.
I wish I knew!

Tell HN: macOS 26 is making me have regrets for the first time in 12yrs

Sorry, I'm basically venting, but I'm sincerely curious to know what you think of this.In 1998 (97?) I installed Debian 2.0 for the first time, and I had been a Linux user, both at work and for personal purposes, up until 2013. I was so fed up (because I was older) with the hardware issues (external monitors, graphics, drivers) that I switched to Mac and never looked back.Up until now. I...

I can't say I like the server returning portions of HTML that need to match the HTML in the client, but I can see myself trying it in a monorepo and using some templating lib on both sides.

Let's say I'm intrigued and on the fence.

Not an expert, but I'm convinced they will all pivot to military applications before they go bankrupt, and that will unleash a whole new type of hell
Reminds me of when ~10 years ago with a particular version of Webpack the build would fail if I had one SVG called add.svg so I had to rename it plus.svg

The native VSCode extension has worse UX than the TUI, so I'm sticking with the TUI
Re:Ask HN: Are there any non-SPA front end developers left? on Monday September 29, 2025 @11:28AM (#45415021)
Is there any non-SPA front end job market left?
I can relate, and it's especially concerning when it comes to my child ending up in videos (and pictures) by random people.

So ugly and pointless it hurts. Same for iOS 26.

I can't read it like this. It's just too much work.

Yeah, thanks for the downvote. You're right. People older than 30 shouldn't exist and shouldn't be here commenting.

Everybody loves a mini phone. Then you hit your 40s or 50s, and you suddenly understand the benefits of having a bigger screen.
I just want to say that people shouldn't use tools they hate for most of their day.
Re:Ask HN: Took a break after burnout – what now? on Thursday July 10, 2025 @12:35PM (#44522837)
First things first: one full year of therapy. Then, reassess and make your decision.
Why do you want to harass people, innocent people until proven otherwise, over an interview?

Go on with the interview without any such tricks. Hire them if they pass. Fire them afterwards if they heavily underperform.

Do the same for others, and mention your mentors whenever appropriate.
