Re:Ask HN: Startup people, how do you feel about GDPR? on Wednesday April 12, 2023 @05:42AM (#35537125)
My company is in the data scraping industry and GDPR is extremely important to us. In fact I wrote about it extensively in this article: https://nubela.co/blog/is-linkedin-scraping-gdpr-compliant/?...
We discovered the same thing while tracking every laid-off individual from Google to understand the story behind. Here's the summary:

- 747 out of the 2,762 laid-off Googlers have since updated their profiles to indicate a change of employment status in the last 4 months since November 2022.

- 56.7% of these people joined a tech company.

- 1/3 of these ex-Googlers joined startups.

There are still substantial ex-Googlers being laid off in Europe though, we did a full analysis and these are some findings:

- 747 out of the 2,762 laid-off Googlers have since updated their profiles to indicate a change of employment status in the last 4 months since November 2022.

- Only 56.7% of these people joined a tech company.

- 1/3 of these ex-Googlers joined startups.

We actually tracked every laid-off individual from Google to understand the story behind the layoffs. Here's the summary:

Re:People most affected by the tech layoffs on Wednesday April 05, 2023 @02:23AM (#35450103)
Great commentary. We did similar analysis but on the roles most impacted by recent Google layoffs, here's one of the findings:

- Software Engineers Were Most Affected: 30% Of All Laid-Off Employees

We actually tracked every laid off individual from Google to understand the story behind the layoffs, and we're analysing the other big tech firms too. Here's the summary,

- 747 out of the 2,762 laid-off Googlers have since updated their profiles to indicate a change of employment status in the last 4 months since November 2022.

- Only 56.7% of these people joined a tech company.

I'm a founder of an investment research API company, I've built APIs for investment research and algotrading that tracks companies employee growth, get unlimited historical count, track employee movement etc. For e.g. tracking ex-MAMMA, ex-Coinbase executives when they found new startups https://nubela.co/blog/using-proxycurls-historic-linkedin-em...

Re:Alphabet Shutting Down Everyday Robots on Wednesday March 01, 2023 @04:39AM (#34980462)
As Pichai said, they're refocusing the priorities, guess many affected by the layoffs are employees in these departments.

Saw this study and it analysed the roles most affected (engineers being most affected), but it would be interesting to see the more micro-level of whether its Everyday Robots or etc.

https://nubela.co/blog/1-in-3-ex-google-employees-in-15-bill...

Lol saw the same study (but for Google) here. Seems that engineers still the most impacted roles?

Many ex-FAANG bring their skills from FAANG projects to new projects at startups

Not surprising that many went to startups since they are adjacent industries

https://nubela.co/blog/1-in-3-ex-google-employees-in-15-bill...

From this study about Google layoffs, there are actually quite a number who had found a job.

However, the rounds don't seem to stop, and if they don't, the market will be saturated with applicants that greatly outnumber job vacancy.

Which we will now see the consequences. https://nubela.co/blog/1-in-3-ex-google-employees-in-15-bill...

Re:Tech Layoffs Are Feeding a New Startup Surge on Wednesday March 01, 2023 @03:52AM (#34980194)
Interestingly, this post talks about 1 in 3 laid-off Googlers joining startups. But... I believe there are still many looking out for jobs. The article also cited developers being bulk of the affected, so nothing odd in many joining the tech/startup scene I guess. https://nubela.co/blog/1-in-3-ex-google-employees-in-15-bill...
