Hello. I am a Full Stack Software Engineer with over six years of experience working with startups in the Bay Area and some big tech companies. I had taken the last couple of years “off” to give entrepreneurship a chance, but now I am looking for new opportunities to resume my software development career. I am very comfortable working across the stack and can learn pretty fast.

Over engineering at its best. I tend to see microservices as a doubled edged sword and in this case, there was no need for them.

Also, the pricing of AWS quickly goes up as you go from EC2 -> Fargate -> Lambda. I don't know why on earth someone would build microservices at the lambda-level.

Re:Laying myself off from Amazon on Thursday November 17, 2022 @05:11AM (#33636955)
I quit Amazon over a year ago with my managers encouraging me to stay. I was on a cross road of decisions between being stuck in an engineering work that intensify my depression vs taking the high road and hope for the best in uncharted startup territory.

Engineering at Amazon is not for a fainted heart, and internal tooling is definitely the source of most people's miseries. On multiple occasions, I had to fix external tools at the expense of making progress on my own work, in the name of exhibiting a "deep dive" ethos.

On another hand, however, I think Amazon is a good place to work for people who will eventually get into startups.

Re:Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro on Thursday October 06, 2022 @06:41PM (#33115062)
It's so sad that companies are ditching smaller devices. I liked my Pixel 3 as I can perfectly use it with one hand given its convenient 5.5 size. Now that I am considering upgrading to Pixel 7, I just can't shake the feeling that I might not enjoy a 6.3 display.
Re:Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro on Thursday October 06, 2022 @06:36PM (#33115018)
I am still using Pixel 3 and it really works well (mostly) despite no longer receiving software updates. It's so shameful that companies stop pushing updates to older hardware for no tangible reason.

Anyway it seems Pixel 7 might be a good replacement. I might have to wait a bit though for initial reviews to come in as I don't like being a guinea pig.

Re:Google is shutting down Stadia on Thursday September 29, 2022 @04:23PM (#33026625)
Someone has already mentioned this deep in one thread, but I am genuinely worried about the fate of Flutter given Google's reputation.
Re:Impressions from a first-time Mac user on Tuesday April 12, 2022 @07:51AM (#31001327)
I think the author is being overly pessimistic about Mac software. I did not find anything utterly "eye-rolling" from his article, besides a few nitpicks that are reasonable from someone accustomed to linux/window.

Real "free speech" is hard and prohibitively expensive to maintain.

But if we can accept that there's not "right" without "wrong" or a coin's "tail" without a "head", we can sympathize with those we deem unworthy of "free speech".

Not trying to sound mean, but I think something is wrong here. You can’t just quit your job without any proven means to sustain yourself. It’s like jumping in an ocean hoping not to drown even if you can't swim.

I feel like there was no indication whatsoever that would have compelled him to quit and focus on his own game(s). Ideally, he would instead have released the game while still employed, and then quit only if the game becomes a success.

Re:How Firefox Got Fast Again on Tuesday November 14, 2017 @04:45AM (#15693814)
I just installed the beta version, and my impression is mostly page load and new tab. They are incredibly fast. I also like that FF has made some noticeable improvements on the UI. It looks a bit cleaner now.

I think this might be the turning point to ditch Chrome & its parent.
