You are not wrong, this is a complex issue. I just can't help but point out your username here :)

If it doesn't do what he says or cost what he says it costs then how is that not BS? Did I miss the joke?
Re:Ikea has bought TaskRabbit on Thursday September 28, 2017 @01:29PM (#15359097)
Kind of throwing the baby out with the bathwater here...IKEA might still be great for you as long as you avoid all the subcontracted installation services? Unless you don't know or care to turn a screwdriver, I guess! :)
Re:S&P Cuts China’s Credit Rating, Citing Risk from Debt Growth on Thursday September 21, 2017 @01:40PM (#15305760)
Is any of that 1.3 trillion in exported goods a value-add on top on goods imported from China?

Are you denigrating my Teddy Ruxpin?
I don't really get the snark here, exercise and fast travel arn't mutually exclusive. In fact, one might find more time to exercise by making it faster to get from point a to point b in general?
Re:83 percent of Bay Area renters plan to leave, says survey on Wednesday August 16, 2017 @12:16PM (#15028678)
It is not a realistic short-term solution, but maybe a good long term move? Your comment makes it sound like it isn't a reasonable investment at all because it won't return in the desired timeframe.
Sometimes I use an unlicensed Jetbrains product - it closes automatically after 30 minutes of action
This is a good point. I think a real solution to the 'tax problem' requires both a) having the gubment send us an itemized invoice instead of making us file and b) having a transparent, simple to grok code so that we can validate the bill.

edit: this is obviously a huge huge problem to tackle, but dont we all feel a lot of energy around this during tax season? :)

I love this idea in theory, and basically revisit it every year during tax season.

The tax/tax prep lobby is strong, and perhaps needfully so, as a whole bunch of people have their livelihoods wrapped up in it, but I often wonder if that whole industry is not actually a net negative for the economy.

edit: How do we help this idea take flight?

Sounds like what you really need is engaging work in a nice environment. ;)
Re:Meme Instructions Make Bombs, Not Glow Sticks on Tuesday May 10, 2016 @01:59PM (#11669182)
I had a hard time parsing this - couldn't tell if the Bomb part was false, or the glowstick part.
Re:Uber losing $1B a year to compete in China on Thursday February 18, 2016 @03:44PM (#11129156)
I thought he was lamenting the fact that Uber has to compete with an unprofitable organization buying their market share. In an article about how his very own company is losing 1B a year to exist in that market. If that isn't irony, I don't know what is.
Re:BetaFEC on Monday November 02, 2015 @01:38PM (#10493964)
Maybe things would be better if people didn't have such a myopic and defeatist attitude?

I find the emails verbose, and don't really care for the for the prose. That being said, at least in my head, when its public i'll say 'here goes'.
Is this your site?

Have you tried any https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steganalysis?

I would like to build a distributed file system out of this, on top of image hosting services like Flickr, but I probably never will.

Have fun.

Yes, I came to make this point, and to appeal to the masses for the accompanying lecture so that I might better understand some of the contents...anyone?
Re:It all began with a strange email (2012) on Tuesday February 10, 2015 @06:47PM (#9030685)
Yep - this name jumped out at me because I heard it on the radio this morning (synchronicity!). He is now the Finance Minister of Greece, so he's got some bigger fish to fry than how much that virtual hat should cost.

PS Hook em.

Well, this certainly blows my yo-based Pomodoro Timer out of the water.
Re:Show HN: A Pomodoro Timer built on the Yo API on Tuesday July 22, 2014 @08:26PM (#8072305)
I seriously do use it, but not for serious purposes ;)

Sorry for the double post - I messed this up earlier.

It is very primitive, but the code can be found here: https://github.com/thebrettd/pomodoryo

It is running on Heroku and waiting for your Yos :)
