News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

thatsabadlook

Highly doubtful. More than likely someone is picking targets here. Going for food supply is a war crime. So it could be an extremely hostile nation state. Or some really psychopathic disgruntled person/group. If there's no ransom it strongly leans toward a nation state in my opinion. A lot of turmoil between Europe and Russia+the us lately. That's my guess.
Analytics are very different from controls. People who model them the same tend to suffer.
No I was just saying generally, the number of security risks do to AI is ridiculous
Can't tell if it will be some asshole hacker group, Russia, the us, or what. But for the love of God please stop connecting everything to the Internet and also ai...
Capitalism has nothing to do with efficiency. Some resources are most effiently distributed through nonprivitized means.
Re:Jepsen: ParticleDB 1.1.4 on Sunday November 01, 2026 @07:15AM (#50324906)
They all got played by some ai dunning kreugers. The investors might not know it but anyone who knows anything about dbs knows that failing a jepsen test this badly is not the start of something. it's the end of something.

Looking at some of the findings because I don't even have the time to pretend to read half of the failures leads me to believe that promoting this "database" should be illegal.

Go figure one of the founders is on openais board. Yikes...

Re:Jepsen: ParticleDB 1.1.4 on Sunday November 01, 2026 @06:45AM (#50324718)
There is no doubt in my mind this is exactly what they did after this was published.
Re:We Took over ChatGPT Accounts on Saturday October 31, 2026 @09:19AM (#50315945)
Not worth the effort for a company supposedly worth a trillion dollars. The problem is oai can't afford all of its mistakes at the usual rate and they make bad press. A 100k bug could make a headline, but 5k for the same bug requires the average person to be educated enough to understand how bad these issues are.
Re:Tell HN: Scribd Breached on Saturday October 31, 2026 @06:56AM (#50314840)
It's both.
Re:Tell HN: Scribd Breached on Saturday October 31, 2026 @06:49AM (#50314796)
A lot of people expect that. Apparently it's not working out so well in reality. My buddy who is big in this said something to the effect of, when a human codebase has human understanding it may have issues but it's strengthened by ai. When an ai codebase has little human understanding it's not strengthened by people very much. So his take was the most secure code bases he is seeing right now are human ones which use ai tools to help read and review rather then write. My guess is that's also cultural and industry specific. He is niched into businesses that actually care and usually doesn't take work from cowboy outfits.
Re:Tell HN: Scribd Breached on Saturday October 31, 2026 @06:07AM (#50314584)
AI is actually a big reason why there are so many vulnerabilities over the past year and a half. People don't even know what their code bases look like anymore. It's really bad so sayeth my friends doing consulting.

A lot of companies cyber security posture is asking Claude to "find all security issues make no mistakes".

Re:US tech stocks see sharp falls over AI cost fears on Friday October 30, 2026 @01:56PM (#50307695)
Wut it's exactly what's happening. Why are you talking about Roblox and not Amazon etc. this is a weird comment to be at the top of hn
Re:Backdoors in official Claude Code extensions on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:06AM (#50303330)
Anthropic: coding is solved Also anthropic: we ship actual malware to customers.
Supposedly they are out there. I heard from one person who claimed it. They didn't have a viable product and said their ai spend was in the tens of thousands a month for over 6 months. 1 employee startup baby
Tech bros are kind of untethered from reality.
Re:Giving chat feedback gives Anthropic your data on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @10:43AM (#50260167)
It is pretty funny when you think about it. The shock and awe of it all...
Re:AI promised less work. I've never worked more on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @08:50AM (#50258346)
No. Actually some things take longer and lead to worse outcomes. AI tools invent problems and find work for themselves while also failing at their stated tasks in opaque ways all the damn time. It's obnoxious and why so many repos are stupidly large for no good reason.
Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:44AM (#50244624)
It's really marginally better and in some cases actually worse. If 100 dollars is throwaway money for you, and prices don't increase sure why switch. For heavier users, and for people with less money(most of America is struggling with bills and food) it's not attractive at all.
If you like nonhuman content and nonhuman takes on nonhuman content just chat with an LLM. If reddit is only useful as a secondary source o lf LLM consensus I think you could vibe code your own reality and let the rest of us who like talking to humans about human content out of your loop
Actually mostly sane.
Because it corrects the model output using model input
Uh the ultimate training data... Turning their slop into human accessible anything even if proven wrong is training data they should be paying tens of millions of dollars for.
Re:Symbolic Learning in Python and Julia on Saturday October 24, 2026 @03:29PM (#50224318)
Yay now when you load your python project you have 2 interpreters, 2 gcs, 200mb of ram overhead, and nondeterministic performance due to joat.
Re:I Don't Understand Quantum Physics (2018) on Saturday October 24, 2026 @08:44AM (#50220731)
Somehow hacker news makes the top comment about some weird unrelated ai take. So unrelated. The take mostly doesn't make sense either.
They don't care because of several reasons. 1. They get paid not to 2. They are told not to.

Alot of this spying ends up producing valuable data for different agencies to purchase which otherwise they cannot legally obtain without a warrant. Sure some of it has some commercial value, but a lot of it is probably more valuable for domestic spy operations.

Re:Remove pgrust: the entry is cheating on Friday October 23, 2026 @02:02PM (#50213000)
The post is garbage. There shouldn't even be discourse other then "this is what slop looks like over the course of a few months". So that's what I offered. The best anyone can do
Re:Is this the new cyber normal? on Friday October 23, 2026 @08:01AM (#50207597)
Yea most the people I know working in cyber security weren't worried about mythos in a serious way. All the people selling cyber products spread fear over it because profit.Everyone knows there are exploits laying in wait. Always has been always will be.

Most the cyber security people I know were upset once llms came out that could do basic os int and author their own emails, and mimic speech/video. That's how the majority of real losses occur. No one even talks about it. It's mind numbing hearing about the zebras and unicorns when there are 10 billion ants entering houses a year. Exotic stuff sells...

Now lots of sane people are genuinely and correctly worried that turning all engineers into 24/7 sloppers is and will continue to make the world far more exploitable. That's the real risk as far as I can tell

Re:Remove pgrust: the entry is cheating on Friday October 23, 2026 @07:54AM (#50207537)
If I saw that test in a PR I would not only reject the PR and ask a lot of questions but someone would likely take a forced vacation to deslop their brain.
Re:Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner's phone on Friday October 23, 2026 @07:26AM (#50207298)
He would be stupid not to. His wife's father is the president. Shit they probably split the money. Why else is he in the role he has lol.
