This will stop exactly zero criminals who were going to use a 3D printer to print gun parts.
Also worked very well for the Oceangate Titan submersible.
Cool! From HP! The robot only costs $1,500 but a two pack of extra sharpies for it costs $48,000. Before you can use it, you must install 5 petabytes of HP drivers.
Agreed! In the US there is a company that does this but they don’t have a nationwide presence:
https://www.rentawreck.com/. Also in Iceland there is “Sad Car” which was great for kicking around.
"It depends": Beanstalk is a bit like training wheels with regards to auto scaling, load balancing, and high availability. If you/your team are new to those concepts as applied on AWS, then EB can make it a lot faster to get a solid environment up and running.
Downsides are that failing deploys can get wound around the axle pretty easily and you can be sitting around for 30 minutes waiting for everything to go green so you can try again.
Also check out AWS copilot on ECS as another, perhaps more current, form of training wheels.
You might be on to something. I work remote... Already in a small mountain town but in my new-ish neighborhood the houses are crowded together. We've considered buying more remote land but the zoning codes in most CO counties require you to finish a building in 1 year and prohibit RVs until a house is finished (to deter people from doing exactly what we would do: parking an RV on your 10 acres). So: if we could rent a similar setup once in a while for a month or two that would have great appeal. However in my situation I would NOT want other cabins, bathrooms, or firepits any closer than 300 or 400 feet away. If I want to hear my neighbors while i'm coding I can just stay at home.

Can anyone confirm that online transfer (Transfer and Payments | Online Transfers) is broken in Firefox? When you get to the "2. Review" page the "submit" button is unclickable. Works in Chrome. Tried all the basics (cookies, restart, etc.) and seems broken to me.
Overall I think you might be on to something. I have a nice set of bose noise cancelling headphones but I don't like to wear them for the entire day.
My particular challenge: my home office is pretty quiet except when my extremely high-pitched-voice retired lady neighbor is scratching around in her garden while bossing her henpecked husband around. In that case she is just on the other side of my exterior wall and is basically 9 feet away. I've tried to deal with it by putting some small bluetooth speakers against the window but, as you pointed out, that music has to be pretty loud to drown out her whine.
If your solution would help in this scenario you would have a customer!
Good concern. We won't be doing any "hundreds of hours" solution. We've been married over 30 years so we're a pretty good team - naturally I wouldn't do it without both of us thinking it was a great idea.
Thanks so much for the resources and the well thought out reply!
LOL. Thank you for downvoting that for me. The Internet wouldn't be the Internet if it weren't for asshats!

My wife will be undergoing significant oral surgery in a few weeks and there is a SMALL chance she may lose the ability to speak. I'd like to prepare, just in case, to have technology to reproduce her voice from keyboard or other input. My ideal would be an open source "deepfake toolkit" that allows me to provide pre-recorded samples of her speech and then TTS in her voice. Unfortunately most...
1) There will always be "boring" work regardless of whether you run your own company or you are a Jr. Software Dev. When faced with boring work I always recommend: A) Challenge yourself do to this in the most excellent way possible: Is everything perfectly named? Layout is beautiful? Met all of the coding standards in place at your workplace? Is the change documented in end-user facing documentation? B) Could this be automated? If it is truly that mind-numbing and routine could you write scripts to do this with a few inputs? C) Can you delegate this to a more junior staff member?
2) Not sure "how" your manager is being "uncooperative"... Is he/she only giving you boring work? Sometimes managers dole out boring work if they think the person cannot handle more challenging tasks. Have you proven that you can be Excellent (See 1A) at all times? Have you nicely asked to be given the chance for a greater challenge?
It is going to be a tough "sell" to your manager if you are not completing boring tasks because you cannot focus on them. You'll probably need to prove your competence and excellence before you'll be granted tougher assignments.
Best of luck!
I love Poweramp (i'm on android). Plex is second best but has stability problems.
Upwork is a dumpster-fire. I have used it (to hire specifically-skilled software professionals) several times in the past six years and these are the problems: 1) too many people bid on your project even if they clearly do not have the desired experience. 2) "firms" that bid on your projects, again, without the experience. 3) vendors "having trouble with upwork...can we just switch to paypal?" 4) Upwork suddenly stopping vendors "for violating our terms of service" (almost certainly due to #3).
I hope to never use Upwork again to hire. The last three times i clearly put in the job posting: "Once you begin work: all work and payment will and must contine with the original upwork account! We will not switch accounts, we will not switch to paypal."
There MUST be better services!
This is fantastic! Nicely done.
Very interesting. Thanks for posting this... I had wondered what happened to openclipart.
Yes this has been happening intermittently to me for the past 3 weeks. Haven't determined the pattern yet but sometimes I will notice I AM logged in.
Very saddened by this. I very much enjoyed LJ even though I didn't "deep dive" into many of the articles. Honestly the original appeal for me was the PAPER publication - I can't stand staring at a screen if I'm not working... Have spent enough of my life staring at the screens.
Even after LJ went online-only I kept the subscription going because I didn't want to lose a publication that was so focused on something that is so important to me, and hopefully, all of us: Pure Linux and cool new open source software.
Best wishes to Kyle and the rest of the team and thanks for giving it another go!!!
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
It is actually incredibly easy if you use a password manager and have your local pi-hole credentials all saved. Maybe 4 clicks and I've disabled both my pi-holes (primary and backup) for 15 minutes.
I've been running 2 pi-holes for almost a year. I've been surprised at how well they work and how few sites have issues. I've only encountered 2 problems: 1) Administering Google Ads... Of course it needs to be disabled. 2) Oddly enough Lowes website has very odd online ordering issues unless you disable the pi-holes.

Not that I know of. Kind of depends: Is the offending company a utility? A financial entity? Takes a bit of sleuthing.
Completely agree! Taking the time to pull in the regulatory body that sits on top of a misbehaving behemoth absolutely works! I've done this with PHH Mortgage who "lost" a payment when they took over the mortgage from another company, and also with Enterprise Car Rental when they tried to scam me in Chicago during a drop-off. In both cases I received 100% satisfaction very quickly.
Other tips:
* Take the time to find the correct regulator... It might be in a different state than yours
* Prepare a complete document with as many facts and scanned copies as you can
* Clarify your desired outcome
* Send everything certified mail
* CC the CEO of the company with which you are fighting
* If sending a follow-up letter, included scanned copies of the certified mail receipt(s) from previous communications - they cannot then argue that they did not receive your previous communication.
Nobody wants a call from the AG or a Financial Regulator!
Yes, it is terrible that this needs to be done, but it works wonders.
This is, perhaps, one of the most civilized and enlightened on-line discussions I have ever witnessed. Newnewpdro and weeksie I commend you both.
+1 for "Last time I was in jail..."
