Re:Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @07:06AM (#50350973)
Unless we use the tools from those companies to write more efficient LLMs and release them freely
Re:Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen on Monday November 02, 2026 @05:59PM (#50345288)
This would allow a swarm of agents to teach eachother new knowledge, no? Group learning?
Re:Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen on Monday November 02, 2026 @05:18PM (#50344715)
If this is true, I think this may be a pivotal moment in history.
Re:Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy? on Sunday November 01, 2026 @09:00PM (#50332164)
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how absurd it is that our world regularly manufactures TVs that we have to be worried spy on us?

Can you imagine explaining that future to someone in the 80s? They would not believe that our society let it happen

Re:HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN on Sunday November 01, 2026 @07:22PM (#50331444)
Exactly - e.g. I've drawn from 15 years of making music manually, and then used GenAI to implement deterministic music generation tools that I've designed.

Tbh, I am not sure if I will continue, because I feel that it is the feeling of process that inspires people, and this lacks some of that..

Re:It wasn't AI that flipped Proton's charge on Sunday November 01, 2026 @03:40PM (#50329622)
I've had one eye on the Proton exit since they made it clear they were not disintangled from Big Tech nor politically neutral. Then they kept blocking discussions about it on their reddit: https://theintercept.com/2025/01/28/proton-mail-andy-yen-tru...
Re:HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN on Sunday November 01, 2026 @03:34PM (#50329520)
I often wonder if AI generated programming is ethically positive, whereas AI generated media is problematic.

I don't have the answer yet, but it is fairly clear that the lowered barrier to making software is helping to untangle us from software monopolies, as people keep spinning up alternatives super quickly!

Re:Official Claude Code extension compromise on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:32AM (#50303636)
The descriptions around this are very confusing. Is this specifically the Cursor version, or the regular VS Code version too?
Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Friday October 30, 2026 @03:29AM (#50300787)
So glad that cryptocurrency is properly decentralized so that one company being compromised doesn't led to massive theft /s
Re:Duet is the future of chatbot interaction on Thursday October 29, 2026 @05:40PM (#50296479)
There was a really good line I heard recently about how a lot of the hype comes from people who have has assistants as staff in life previously, whereas most of the population has never been in that position. So don't worry if it's not at all obvious how to benefit from this for the near future (I also have near 0 interest of delegating my personal matters)
Re:The importance of communities around software on Thursday October 29, 2026 @05:32PM (#50296383)
Some really good points here. I suppose this shows that some software projects are community-first (like Game Jams), and some are Utility-first (name any). They are often both, but one takes precedence. And rather than saying "all software should be done this way", it is more a question of what the primary goals of a project are.
Re:Genie 4 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @04:46PM (#50265556)
Sam had OpenAI start the Ghibli style image-gen (movies that are specifically loved for their artisanal quality). The man has patternly failed to read the room around culture.
Re:Dream-1 on Saturday October 24, 2026 @06:28PM (#50226063)
Yeah, from my experience HN must be pushing "trending" topics to front page and not pushing others.

There are huge numbers of new posts - the ones that reach front page are definitely not the only ones with that amount of upvotes.

Re:AI and the Enclosure of the Scientific Commons on Thursday October 22, 2026 @05:08PM (#50201066)
I agree it is terrifying because it is unknown. It is also true that the frontier AI labs have not worked well with affected communities at all and often downright exploited them.

BUT I also agree that, like any new technology, people will find mind-blowingly creative paths forwards with it, opening up whole new art forms.

Google Fonts as a Protest Piece?

I just noticed that all of the Google Fonts example text now reflects the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This cannot be coincidence, given the context of the last 2 years. For example, see https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Roboto"No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile. Everyone is entitled in full equality to a fair and public hearing by an independent and...

It's how I currently do Open Source. I like to think of it as a strong form of indirect collaboration - https://johnoestmannmusic.com/indirect-collaboration/
Re:Thinking will become a hobby on Monday October 12, 2026 @04:33PM (#50062644)
There are many different types of thinking. Judgement is one that humans will need to retain.
Re:Grieving the Loss of Details on Saturday October 10, 2026 @08:10PM (#50038403)
Not exactly what you asked for, but I now keep pencil and paper next to me, and that has been incredibly refreshing for brainstorming / mental processing
Re:REA Reverse – Engineer Anything on Saturday October 10, 2026 @08:07PM (#50038373)
Just want to say I was speaking with a programming friend yesterday who described this exact same experience at his workplace. The siloing sounds insane - even to the point where people "get annoyed if you ask them questions, because they expect you to ask your AI instead"

I think the points more to an unhealthy workplace culture than simply AI itself

Re:US Suspends Visa Program for Tech Firms Including Microsoft on Thursday October 08, 2026 @05:45PM (#50012788)
I am extremely suspicious that the White House is going after Microsoft for not cozying up to Trump the same way OpenAI and friends have..
Re:The Dawn of the Age of the Exoskeleton on Thursday October 08, 2026 @05:41PM (#50012736)
I do think exoskeletons are hugely unappreciated and will have an amazing effect on society, due to increased accessibility, endurance, augmentation, while still keeping the human in the driver seat
I think the real question is "can we apply these solutions?"

It is important that we stay focused - this is theatre. Incredibly impressive, but this doesn't yet show evidence of helping society, which is the whole reason we were doing this in the first place.

Re:GPT‑6 and Intelligent UI for everyone on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @04:57PM (#49998710)
I am pretty convinced that businesses will be making custom internal software as a norm in the next few years, and this seems to be a slight push in that direction
You should look into using AI to generate code that synthesizes sounds. Not exactly what you asked for, but I do think it is an approach worth considering: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1-i45X5aj94
