What? People trust science. If they don't they are morons. Of course sometimes things and long held truths are proven wrong or different from new discoveries but that does not at all hurt science, this is the process.
There is a PR with pinboard JSON support now.
Re:Show HN: Caspy – AI Assistant for Emails on Wednesday May 03, 2017 @11:31AM (#14256557)
How is this AI? Snooze, Reply-to and mute emails? Wow, needs hella brain for that. If-Statements are not AI.

The title is misleading.

Re:Angie's List Acquired for $500M by IAC on Monday May 01, 2017 @09:04PM (#14243201)
Nevermind it being a little OT, little discussions like this make HN great IMHO.
Even without any newly discovered backdoor. The Intel ME was always a fuing security issue. A BACKDOOR. It is completely naive to think the NSA can't use the ME to get access to anything, but hey it needs another Snowden for people to listen again.

Ask HN: Who profits from AdSense

So I'm reading about how Alphabet's (Google) profits from advertising are growing. However every once in a while a post is trending on HN about how bad income is from AdSense. So I wonder: Who are the big winners in this besides Google. Are there any sites who generate enough income from Google to support tech/journalist/etc. teams?

Re:Why Juicero’s Press Is So Expensive on Monday April 24, 2017 @07:14PM (#14189308)
Guys, cancer. It's still out there. Donate for research instead of wasting 400 Bucks on a fu*king juice press. No one can justify this useless piece of crap.
Re:Google plans ad-blocking feature in Chrome browser on Thursday April 20, 2017 @04:49AM (#14155001)
Well here comes Google, shoving leaflets up your ass because they think their leaflets are special and more acceptable!
Machine Learning is just a tool belt. AI is the idea of intelligent machines being able to solve problems (and recognizing them) on their own. Therefore of course AI can utilize the tool belt that is Machine Learning.
They don't charge you for the domain itself but for some part of their service. What's so hard to get about this?
Re:Instagram Stories hits 200M users, surpassing Snapchat on Thursday April 13, 2017 @03:43PM (#14110302)
Outside their app snapchat as close to zero visibility. No share buttons on the web, no snap ghosts in commercials (like "add us on facebook"), nothing. They really have to come up with something there.

When Facebook had their IPO everyone argued about them having no revenue, but they still had user growth, when Snap started they already had no user growth. This combined with no revenue... Wall Street does not approve!

Re:Introducing Increment on Thursday April 13, 2017 @02:50PM (#14109839)
I'm really sorry for my comment. Turns out I didn't check Stripe for a while. Bitcoin is now completely supported yes, and I see support for SEPA and other payment options incoming. Great guys!
Re:Introducing Increment on Thursday April 13, 2017 @02:37PM (#14109730)
Would really prefer Stripe to release more payment options like Bitcoin or Paypal, or adding more countries and their more local payment options.
Re:Photos from Inside North Korea (2014) on Sunday April 09, 2017 @06:06PM (#14074592)
Look in the comments of the computer store video, he is a Diplomat so he can "roam freely" as he puts it. Somewhat interesting anyway!
> but we are still decades (or more) away from full level-5 autonomy

Decades? Are you really sure? This assumption seems quite uninformed to me. The Grand Challenge was 12 years ago, from then we evolved from Level 1 to Level 3. Back then there was no data, computing power wasn't available as today, chips (&sensors) can be designed an built within a few months or even less these days for far less money. Machine Learning and Computer Vision made many advances in these 12 years (talent in these fields is now easier to acquire as more people can learn about it these days). We are at a completely different point these days. Level 5 is not the matter of decades, 5 years, 10 max. But not decades.

Re:Why We switched from Python To Go on Sunday April 09, 2017 @08:23AM (#14071926)
Well Medium strikes again. Every post on this platform seems to be utter bs.
Re:The reference D compiler is now open source on Friday April 07, 2017 @12:59PM (#14061405)
This is big. Heard from mmany people that this avoids adoption.
Re:An off-grid social network on Thursday April 06, 2017 @11:54AM (#14051702)
A hipster living on a self-steering sailing boat has 600 modules published on NPM. I can't even. Seriously how could this be even more funny?!
This is how journalism should work. Not like the Washpo, acting as Jeff Bezos Anti-Trump propaganda machine. Don't get me wrong here, this is not a Trump fan writing, but I can't stand the biased bs media publishes these days.
Re:Introducing Twitter Lite on Thursday April 06, 2017 @05:26AM (#14049092)
Well they can release something good after all. Look at the main Web UI. I don't know what they are thinking at Twitter. Its the most unintuitive UX I've ever seen.

E.g. :

Click on the Image -> Only the Image gets larger

Click on the frame around the image -> See the comments and Image is larger.

What? Comparing the situation in Africa to China? FFS, Hacker News...
Re:MathJax CDN shutting down on April 30, 2017 on Friday March 31, 2017 @03:46PM (#14007443)
MathJax is such a great thing. Paired with simple markdown it really helps me structuring all my study work, sharing is so much easier with HTML files than TEX files. So sad to see the CDN go. Also: Hey Google, wanna do something really great? Sponsor them! wink
Re:Voice Calls: Secure, Crystal-Clear, AI-Powered on Thursday March 30, 2017 @09:00PM (#14000418)
You are dumb if you really believe this. Technology always proves people wrong. Just wait for it.
Re:How much your computer can do in a second on Sunday March 26, 2017 @08:46PM (#13964303)
Also, the web devs have no idea how slow the connections in even the western world can be. At least I think so, if they had to experience a 4 Mbit/s connection more often they wouldn't push for Angular and such.
Re:What Initial Coin Offerings Are, and Why VC Firms Care on Saturday March 25, 2017 @01:36PM (#13956676)
Sometimes ICOs are pulled off by scammers. Look for HEAT-coin for example.
Re:Medium asks $5 a month for nothing on Saturday March 25, 2017 @07:40AM (#13955129)
For some odd reason medium attracts the worst content. All those super optimistic shallow nonsense. Urgh.
Re:Medium asks $5 a month for nothing on Saturday March 25, 2017 @07:18AM (#13955058)
When I see a nice Headline on HN: "Oh cool, I would love to read that", then I look at the domain: "Oh it's on medium. Never mind then." I'd never pay for that shit show.
Any source for that claim?
Re:How I Became a Better Programmer on Tuesday March 21, 2017 @08:13AM (#13921465)
He mentions SICP, which is trending on HN right now: http://sarabander.github.io/sicp/
