We switched to Pulsetic monitoring a year ago, and when UptimeRobot first changed their pricing and terms, we made the move. Here’s the comparison table: https://pulsetic.com/uptimerobot-alternative/ . So far, everything has been great.

I think you plugin is useful, as I see it offers 15 locations, so I have asked to filter them by lower to highest and ask suggestions how to improve my website response time.

This is an excellent resource for small teams who want to create a startup without spending too much money. It can help them quickly create a decent landing page that attracts users to their service or product.
Re:Why are McDonald’s Self Service Kiosks so hackable?
on Monday July 25, 2022 @06:32AM (#32222629)
If it's anything like the McDonald's in the United States, the card readers need to be connected through the network rather than through USB. Because the software that is installed onto them does more than simply send out card numbers, there should not be an easy way to exploit them as card skimmers. The software that is loaded on them handles the transaction.
Re:Finishing what you start makes teams more productive and predictable
on Monday July 25, 2022 @06:31AM (#32222627)
It is readable, simple to comprehend for engineering, product, and management; it adds no value to the game; and it positively rewards finishing what you started. It is exceedingly difficult to precisely forecast when a whole product will ship, much less when a complete feature will be released. However, if one breaks a feature down into its legible constituent components and then commits to completing just what is within that (which also necessitates any required communication in order to arrive at an understanding of the requirements), then over time one can become quite good at predicting what one will be able to get done in a sprint and better at only committing to what one believes they can actually complete.

It's intriguing that XFS, which lacks the integrity checks that ZFS or BTRFS offer, is the recommended filesystem for databases, even distributed ones like CochroachDB.

Wow. Another project is doing something similar, but it doesn't have Bluetooth or an OLED display (it uses the same display), so it's not as useful in everyday life, but it's still very impressive work.
Re:The trouble with symbolic links

There doesn't seem to be a way to batch together operations that involve walking through directories and symlinks to do something to a file. This seems to be a major source of complexity.

Congratulations! When you "earn" your first money that comes from an internet consumer you've never met, rather than from an employment contract, consultancy agreement, or other similarly "conventional" ties, there is a certain sense of accomplishment that comes along with it that is unique and memorable.
Re:Magnus Carlsen to give up World Championship title
on Thursday July 21, 2022 @06:45AM (#32177775)
Aside from watching the Magnus documentary about a younger Magnus while I was in high school, I have almost no knowledge about competitive chess. What sorts of things do chess players engage in during the course of the six months leading up to a match? Is there something that they're trying to remember or a video that they're studying (what would they be looking for)? From the beginning, I was under the impression that they might be played at any moment. This sounds like a really difficult situation.

And this, guys, is the reason why it was able to do fun things to other people's computers when their operating system did not inform the modem to cease receiving incoming bytes when the line was dropped and then picked back up again. It did not care where the bytes came from; it just accepted them...

I'm intrigued by the business model. Making a living as a content creator is difficult. Setting a limited number of members on an exclusive illustration series is likely to be more effective than giving away free illustrations and hoping someone will pay you.
