Re:Show HN: ReBirth 338 in Browser on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @03:13AM (#50349375)
Wow that's impressive indeed. That said, it sounds way worse than the OG Rebirth did, eg the open hihat is just white noise I think instead of a proper 909 hihat.

You might appreciate 8bitbubsy's FT2 clone for Windows/Linux/Mac: https://16-bits.org/ft2.php

It's a very impressive clone, works very well (pre AI!). The only downside is it doesn't have the "Space Pigs" theme.

Re:Toit v2.0.0 on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @02:53AM (#50349258)
Even after reading that (and more of the homepage) I have no idea what this is.

I understand shortened attention spans but maybe consider reading the entire sentence of a single sentence comment before replying.
Re:The AI cost of JavaScript frameworks on Sunday November 01, 2026 @03:55AM (#50323766)
It scores well here because Astro is for “content-driven websites” and that’s what the benchmark app was. I’d be curious how different the results would be if the app was highly interactive, with nontrivial realtime/async stuff going on etc.
Re:Serbia just elected the world's brainiest parliament on Saturday October 31, 2026 @08:10AM (#50315390)
Sure but that’s a far cry to the “Magyar is just another Orbán style despot” vibe that this thread started with. It just means Hungary is Little America.
Re:Serbia just elected the world's brainiest parliament on Saturday October 31, 2026 @06:55AM (#50314833)
Can you elaborate? I mean to my limited outsider understanding, Magyar's entire platform "exactly as right wing as Orban, but with less corruption and with proper democratic civil liberties". Does signing some symbolic agreement about "boo antifa" really break with that promise?
Re:Show HN: Samosa – Linter for Math Derivations on Saturday October 31, 2026 @04:17AM (#50314140)
Fwiw your homepage is borderline unreadable. It’s like 100% slop, 0% signal.
Re:We Won't "Just Hang Out" on Thursday October 29, 2026 @03:55AM (#50285742)
Srsly man join a volleyball club already
Somehow this comment was flagged to death, I really don’t get it. Anyway, I clicked “vouch” and now it’s back.

I can’t imagine humans would flag this comment and not your others (like i could vaguely imagine some militant atheist going crazy, but why only flag the “thanks my pleasure” comment then?), so it’s gotta be some weird HN algorithm. Weird shit!

Wow this was an amazing read, thanks.
Re:Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale on Monday October 26, 2026 @07:25AM (#50241988)
The puffery is the webpage copy, not the automation to produce the map.
Re:Lego collaboration with Daft Punk on Sunday October 25, 2026 @10:58AM (#50232228)
Nice! I’d been wondering about this for a while too and reading the thread I come to the same conclusion as you. If Apple can survive without splashing those symbols all over then surely LEGO can as well.
Re:Lego collaboration with Daft Punk on Sunday October 25, 2026 @10:04AM (#50231716)
Yeah but LEGO is a corporation. Daft Punk is two artists.
Re:Lego collaboration with Daft Punk on Sunday October 25, 2026 @09:47AM (#50231551)
> DAFT PUNK™

I quite like Daft Punk but that ™ makes them uncool very quickly. Immediately makes me assume it's just a brand name now, run by an agency, music work outsourced to freelance ghost composers, and so on. Like Philips TVs and "Jamie Oliver" cookware.

Re:In Rainbows on Sunday October 25, 2026 @04:39AM (#50229477)
Appreciate the recommendation. I like Radiohead a fair bit but I had blatantly assumed Pyramid Song was their last/best work and I kinda stopped paying attention to them since. Will be looping this one for a while!
I love that the logo is a very fast goose
Re:UUIDv7 doesn't have the properties you think it does on Friday October 23, 2026 @01:58PM (#50212944)
I feel like this article way downplays the entire point of UUIDv7s, which is that it lets you sort (and store!) your data kinda sorta by creation time, no overlap ever. That's great for cursors, for streaming data, for twitter clones, for chat messages, for player moves, and so on and so forth. Nearly everything that's vaguely realtimey that you might like to both persist and broadcast live to other clients, and displayed in a stable & reasonable order, benefits from a property like this.

In fairness, he does mention this, but squeezes it into a single sentence near the end. But eg the fact that you can't reliably extract the precise timestamp from the UUIDv7 is a feature, not a bug. It's either that or collisions and you don't want the collisions.

Huh? You’re arguing for carriers to inspect all traffic to block scammers? That’s way more intrusive than google blocking sideloading. The outrage on places like HN would be deafening.
Re:Rust off Rails: The opinionated web stack for the AI era on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @02:12PM (#50185186)
Ok so AIs can pretty reliably write tight for loops now. How the hell did we, as an industry, go from there to “we don't need to think anymore”? Just fart into the idea processor and register a tld amirite?

Wtf is going on folks, can we lay it off already and start thinking and caring about thinking again?

Re:Show HN: Sumi.css – CSS Framework on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @01:00PM (#50184173)
That site is surprising to me. It makes no effort whatsoever to sell Blades to people who don’t know how Pico works.
Re:Voxtral 3 on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:11AM (#50179570)
Sounds like a typo. Brain went “oh yeah we also got Brazilian Portuguese” and just inserted parentheses instead of reordering the words also.

Be happy it was written by a human!

Show HN: Tori by TalkJS. AI support that's actually good

https://asktori.ai

Hey everyone!Joshua and Egbert from TalkJS here. Today we're launching Tori, an AI support agent built for difficult product questions.Other tools we tried struggled with the technical questions we get at TalkJS, so we built our own. One of our test questions was: "How can I add two-way sync between TalkJS and my Minecraft mod?"Our docs never mention Minecraft, and TalkJS does not have a Java...

Wow that's very well worded.

Re:I know why Mathematicians weep on Thursday October 15, 2026 @02:02PM (#50107609)
> For some reason I'm stuck in a real depressing, doomer algorithm / homepage on Twitter

At the risk of taking this off topic, the reason is Twitter. Don't go on Twitter and the doomer algorithm disappears from your life.

Re:I know why Mathematicians weep on Thursday October 15, 2026 @01:59PM (#50107566)
> The idea that our ability to create and sustain conceptual systems depends on the give and take of reasons within a social setting.

I read this sentence 5 times and I still cannot parse it.

Two things can be true at the same time. There’s no denying that there’s an extreme amount of antisemitism in eg Pakistan that would still be there if Israel would behave properly.
Re:Why is every rationalist blog post way too long? on Thursday October 15, 2026 @11:16AM (#50104914)
Why?
Re:Why is every rationalist blog post way too long? on Thursday October 15, 2026 @11:14AM (#50104883)
This means you missed the entire point of the article. The author assumes that you already know that nicotine is bad.
