Yeah but that doesn’t not make it a super weird example. It makes me wonder where else the author is not writing in good faith.
> Palestinians aside,
That easy huh
While I agree with the author’s main argument, it seems weird to single out a blog post (the one from Scott Alexander) whose title includes “Much More Than You Wanted To Know” as being too long. I mean of course it is! It’s right there in the title!
That blog post is explicitly targeted at people who are looking for a nice calm evening of reading about a super weird “way out there” subject. It’s not meant to convince you of an argument quickly and effectively.
It’s a bit like complaining that the “1 pound hangover beater” hamburger at your local grease diner has too many calories.
I can’t tell whether this is sarcasm or not.
> Where’s Holt?
IIRC he drowned and so they named a swimming pool after him.
Yeah it sounds like God hired a malicious freelance programmer who put in a self-propagating backdoor huh.
Wow that’s so gross! Just put a random unassigned string in your function and it changes behavior completely. Bonkers.
The Australian PM? Why? Can you add some context for those of us who live under a rock?
It’s more like US people look at a couple 100yo buildings and say stuff like “wow this place has a lot of history!”
At the risk of making yet another wrong assumption, that sounds like you don’t have a family?
Fwiw laundry takes a pretty significant chunk out of my weekend. I wouldn't spend “thousands of dollars” to reduce it but at around the price of a new phone I’m totally in the market.
I assume you got a spouse or parent do all the laundry for you? I’m not sure you realize how spoiled you sound.
Seriously a laundry folding robot excites me much more than a CLI that can generate code. I enjoy generating code myself! I don’t enjoy laundry. Total killer app.
Why not? Huge companies like Schlumberger work on a similar model. I mean these are not AI businesses (yet) but commercially the model is the same: develop gear in house and rent it out together with the specialists who operate it.
Well that’s a pretty important skill for German users!
Thanks! That "small stellated dodecahedron" drove the point home for me.
(also TIL a 5-pointed star counts as a regular polygon, feels like cheating somehow)
Soo it’s not a “real” shape? In the sense that I couldn't mold some clay into this form like I could with eg a football?
I don’t understand what this is. Wikipedia says a uniform polyhedron means that all faces are regular. If all faces are regular, that means its edges are all the same length right? And corners the same angles. But if I look at the photo I can’t find a single face that has that property. Am I looking wrong or am I simply misunderstanding what I’m looking at?
Your comment implies Germany can just somehow command Poland to please hand over their gas, which obviously makes no sense, so I think you either forgot to include some key detail or you’re just talking out of your ass.
Unless you mean nazi invasions ofc in which case you’re just a troll.
Does that imply no support for operator precedence?
It’s a terrible idea and I believe a substantial portion of the world’s polarization issues stem from this “overton window” nonsense.
How are you ever going to find common ground if everybody who cares deeply about an issue constantly makes the moet extreme version of their argument?
CCP = Chinese Communist Party?
ROC = Taiwan?
Can’t be, right?
Plus it’s a weird abbreviation! Like Ontario isn’t “OO”. Or does the C in Quebec stand for Canada? That’s kinda weird too tbh.
I googled so y'all don't have to: "QC" means Quebec. 81 means Hell's Angels as per sister comment.
https://archive.ph/U3CVNCant manage to get an archive link for the second one.
Does anyone know of an xcancel like service but for Reddit? OP links just lead to a login page.
Come on, they understand it perfectly well. They blew up a school! Of course they’ll happily blame the AI when journos nudge nudge wink wink suggest that they’ll take that as a perfectly good explanation.
The real headline is “Americans blow up school, blame AI”
This isn't a font, it's just a JS lib that colors text based on semantic analysis. Submission title oversells it by a lot.
> Human written code just takes even longer to realize the mistakes because the pace is slower.
Yes but the ceiling is still higher, and that's the author's point. If you vibe code, without code review, code becomes a mess quickly. If humans write code by hand, then this is often the case too, but crucially, this is not unavoidable. Sure, most codebases are a terrible mess, but some are not. AIs unfortunately got trained on all of them (+ reinforcement-learned stuff) and therefore their quality standard is about as low as that of the average codebase, ie pretty damn bad.
But there are plenty examples of acceptably decent yet long-lived codebases, both in OSS and inside companies. You simply couldn't get that quality by vibe coding. (unless you review every line of code and every design decision, at which point you're about as fast as you would be writing it all by hand, assuming some seniority)
It’s a talk, not an article.
