thanks everyone! your insights helped a lot, and i'll be continuing the project :)
Was initially planning to take part in YC as a route to internationlize this project. Am from tiny Singapore, and hence the need to get out of our country for this to scale.

Worth a short applying for the round 2013 still?

Ask HN: What to do when you discover a YC-backed competitor?

Hi there, I've been working on a startup for quite some time, mainly at the validation state. Have recently decided to pivot (eeks, cliche term) after gathering feedback.was really excited about the new direction, until I just learnt of a YC-backed competitor doing almost the asme thing. The only thing that's different is the branding and why we are doing it.Was even hoping to apply to YC in a...

Re:Ask HN: Is having a website HelloWorldHQ.com bad for SEO? on Wednesday September 28, 2011 @07:20AM (#3047331)
Thanks for your advice!! This was wxacty what I was thinking off too. Gut feels says to focus in building up the community and the world will spread online. Even if HelloWorld is already a heavily used term in programming
Heya, there are many available if you google hard enough.

From the search phrase "best personal portfolio sites", you can find a couple.

here's one that you might find useful: http://www.tripwiremagazine.com/2011/05/showcase-of-30-singl...

Byebye SlideShare, Hello SpeakerDeck

This is by no way an advertisement for Speaker Deck :) Not even an employee or friend of theirs (Considering how I'm all the way from Singapore)just thought that their UI would be something people would very much prefer compared to SlideShare, which now seems a little clunky.http://speakerdeck.com/

Re:Don't Do Marketing. Become A Thought Leader. on Sunday September 25, 2011 @03:44PM (#3036575)
An excellent summary and wakeup call yo all marketers out there. Marketing isnt just about rolling out in various marketing channels, but to fundamentally spread the purpose in which a startup/project/product was created in the first place. Looks like Simon Sinek's concept of "Start with Why" was the start of genuine marketing :)

Re:"Agile Business Development" explained by Shopify on Friday May 27, 2011 @10:40AM (#2591598)
Hi Harley! I'm open to any comments on this topic. I've start got inducted into the startup world (had enough of just being a by-stander reading articles).

you've had any experience in this? Coming from a business-student background, I'm struggling to find my value-add to a startup. Thinking to build up my UI/UX knowledge, and attain basic design + programming skills. any thoughts on this?

Apologies for posting this up before the transcript was ready. Thought that it explained the concept of agile development to its core...to bring it beyond just technical pivoting.

Observation of LinkIn's IPO - Listing on NYSE & Comparison with Google

1. LinkedIn chose to list with NYSE instead of NASDAQ - Indicator of internet craze going mainstream? When I read the news that LinkedIn has officially IPO-ed, I was expecting it to list on the NASDAQ. By oh boy was I wrong, it actually listed on the NYSE. Typically, NASDAQ has been the host to many tech-stars such as Google. I am unsure of the technical differences between listing on NYSE and...
