Re:iOS 17 makes iPhone more personal and intuitive on Monday June 05, 2023 @06:26PM (#36204953)
I believe all iOS apps get updated automatically based on apples app rollout process.

But you can still go do it via the App Store using fewer steps. Just click on your profile pic (top right) and you should see all available app updates.

Re:Legend of Zelda game sells 10M copies in three days on Thursday May 18, 2023 @11:08AM (#35989036)
The wii is basically a slightly more powerful GameCube with novel controls. It competed with (and outsold) the ps3 and xbox360 which offered HD visuals and integrated online play.

I put your comment into chatGPT verbatim and it came back with The Wild Shore by Kim Stanley Robinson. Any chance that’s the one? I’d be interested in reading it.

> As we move further away from it we stack up the health problems self inflicted: crooked teeth, wisdom teeth, miopia, acnee, vid-d deficiency, autoimmune diseases, depression, anxiety, etc

The rest of these seem intuitively correct but could you expand on the dental problems?

I’m able to do (almost) that with the web client. The “following” tab is just tweets from people I follow, with the latest ones first.

No “you might like” or “x liked” posts show up there for me.

Not an expert but it could be that those regions have more extreme wet/dry cycles, whereas the hottest parts of North America are deserts without much vegetation.

My dog often uses his “hands” to get our attention or to ask for doors to be opened.
Re:Reddit raises $410M in new funding on Friday August 13, 2021 @12:19AM (#28165401)
I love Apollo on iOS. Without that I’d primarily just browse Reddit on desktop web. The official mobile app and mobile web is actually a disaster.
Twitter banned an individual Account for violating their policy. Not quite the same as a government forcing them to block tweets.
Just look at swimming pools and amusement parks for a parallel.

White Americans felt that it was better to shut them down entirely rather than letting black Americans enjoy them also.

They decided to remained something that they presumably enjoyed because another group was allowed to use it as well.

Private mode should not be detectable at all. It serves no purpose to the user if sites can detect and block its usage.
Re:Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler on Saturday January 09, 2021 @09:11PM (#25707947)
It’s telling when people are more scared about some people being banned from a an online forum than they are about an insurrection and death threats toward the Vice President and members of Congress.
Re:Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler on Saturday January 09, 2021 @09:05PM (#25707884)
Why should white supremacy and neo nazism be a protected class in the same vein as ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation?
Re:Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler on Saturday January 09, 2021 @09:00PM (#25707840)
Everyone concern trolling over these things always brings up hypotheticals in an attempt to debate principals while fully ignoring everything that has actually happened in the real world.

There may be more white people killed by police (in sheer volume) but that’s not the same as white people being more likely to die by police.
Re:U.S. Capitol Locked Down Amid Escalating Protests on Wednesday January 06, 2021 @11:00PM (#25667139)
I'm sorry, but WHY are you glad about that? If anything that infuriates me more. They have known about these threats for months if not years and decided to do nothing until actual violence was at their doorsteps.
Re:U.S. Capitol Locked Down Amid Escalating Protests on Wednesday January 06, 2021 @10:52PM (#25667093)
> Honestly it's shocking how many on HN try to defend it.

Noticing a tendency among many in the tech community to take apolitical & "centrist" positions on many of these issues, which usually ends up with the blaming of "both sides".

Being in the center when one side is so intent on going to the extreme right is not a virtue.

Re:U.S. Capitol Locked Down Amid Escalating Protests on Wednesday January 06, 2021 @10:47PM (#25667059)
Yes, how convenient this time, in comparison to the BLM protests which were met with militarized police against peaceful protestors.
Re:Architecture of the Game Boy Advance on Monday December 28, 2020 @09:21PM (#25565981)
The DS Lite edges it for me. You could get a microsd ds cartridge adapter as well as an expandable flash cartridge for the GBA slot and store all of your home brew games on the microsd.

Back then, it felt so futuristic to have an entire library of games in one cartridge on the go.

Re:Voat Is Shutting Down on Monday December 21, 2020 @10:17PM (#25502470)
I generally hear this sentiment from those who are self proclaimed “centrists” and are relatively unaffected by politics. It’s a little sad how many people think political discussion shouldn’t take place in democratic countries.
Ah yes the slave owning freedom orientated people who founded the country would know best about freedom.
Re:Apple Silicon M1: Black Magic Fuckery on Wednesday November 25, 2020 @01:47PM (#25212726)
In the last couple years Ive been regretting only opting for 8gb ram in my 2015 13" MBP.
I use a Mac and windows everyday and I find the third party windows management tools such as ShiftIt, Spectacle, Magnet, etc to be much better than anything that Windows 10 has built-in.

Primarily, I can never seem to predict what pressing win+Left will actually do. Sometimes it moves the window to the left half. Other times it moves to the right half. And some other times it does nothing until I press win+right first. Overall I think it’s a terrible window management system. Sure MacOS has nothing built in but it takes about 5-10 mins to install and configure a much better system.
